Safe Boating Tips for The Fourth of July

Safe BoatingBRIGHTON Mich., - The Fourth of July can be a great opportunity to go out on the boat and have some fun, but there are a few facts that you as a boater should be aware of before getting too relaxed.

The American Boating Association says that the top contributor of fatalities while boating is BWI (Boating While Intoxicated).   Even one or two beers can increase your chances of having a boating accident by 10.  It’s best not to take a chance this Fourth of July by putting yours and others’ safety at risk, so you should know some of the basic boating safety tips: Operate at a safe speed, always wear a life jacket (even an Olympic swimmer could be saved by a life vest in the event of a boating accident), avoid alcohol, don’t take unnecessary risks and tell someone where you will be.  Things you’ll want to bring with you on the boat are plenty of water, sunscreen (don’t be afraid to reapply often, it doesn’t last forever), hand sanitizer, snacks and even insect repellent.

Safe Boating
Spending time in the sun and going out on the boat for a day is an excellent way to unwind on a national holiday such as this but at the end of the day safety for yourself as well as friends and family is still number one.  Have fun but be smart and be safe!

Fourth of July Grilling Tips & Recipes

Grilling
BRIGHTON Mich., - When people hear that the Fourth of July is coming up they immediately picture fireworks, but most people can agree that fireworks are nothing without a full stomach after a delicious summer barbeque.  Grilling can be a fun way to bring people together but it is also an art and can be improved with easy tips.

Kingsford suggests that applying a non-stick cooking spray or vegetable oil is a great way to prevent the grill from latching onto your prized chicken and devouring it when it’s ripped into several pieces as you try to free it from the sticky grill surface.  Another useful tip is to only apply sauces to your meat that contain brown sugar, molasses or honey in the last ten minutes of grilling, otherwise the sauce will burn and this will cause your demotion from expert griller to mere expert eater next Fourth of July.   An extremely useful tip that many people may not know is that direct grilling is best used only for meats that will take under 30 minutes (steak, chicken, hamburgers, hotdogs, etc.), whereas indirect grilling is for meats which can only be cooked in over 30 minutes (ribs, whole turkeys, briskets and bone-in chicken).

Grilling Check out this recipe for savory garlic marinated steaks on our pinterest as well as these top 10 grilled vegetable recipes that can help you maintain your status as the impressive expert griller that you already are!

New Michigan Fireworks Law 2012

BRIGHTON Mich., June 29, 2012 – This Fourth of July will be a wonderful time to relax, spend time with family and set off the now legal fireworks that everyone has been itching to buy.  The previously illegal aerial spinners, roman candles, bottle rockets, firecrackers and more are now 100% legal as long as you follow the State of Michigan’s guidelines and the ordinances put forth by your own city as well.  Here are some general regulations that you should be aware of:

Fireworks Law
-People under the age of 18 may not use aerial fireworks

-They must be 30 feet from any residential building, garage or open flame when lit

- Fireworks may only be set off on the day before, the day after and the day of a holiday

-City noise ordinances pertaining to fireworks will not be in effect within the holiday timeframes.

According to the Daily Press & Argus, Brighton is currently evaluating its regulations on fireworks in the hopes that we can prevent noise pollution issues as well as promote safety in our community.  There are many injuries that are linked to fireworks, so here are a few tips from the American Pyrotechnics Association on how to stay safe this Wednesday:

Fireworks Law

-Keep water near by in case the fireworks get out of hand

-When lighting them wear protective lenses

-Only have one firework lit at once and do not combine them

-Do not re-light them

-Do not place them in glass or metal containers when shooting them off

and last but not least, read the instructions on the label!

Have a safe and fun holiday!

2012 Ford Fiesta a la mode

With the release of the new 2012 Ford Fiesta, Ford Motor Company did more than just produce another reliable and safe vehicle.  In the second year of production they packed the car with style and substance.  According to U.S. News, the 2012 Ford Fiesta ranked 2nd on the list of affordable small cars.  This is thanks to its ability to offer an impressive 40 hwy mpg while maintaining suitable driving dynamics, a cozy interior, and competitive interior tech for its class.

But what really touts this car’s horn is its remarkable stylistic appearance that offers owners more customizable options to express themselves.  To some their car may simply be a vehicle that transports them from point A to point B.  But to some of us others, we take this situation more seriously. To us, our car is a representation of who we are, an expression of our personal style.  That’s where the 2012 Ford Fiesta comes in. With all of the new customizable options, if you want to make a personal style statement to all those other wheels on the road, then this is a match made in heaven. The new 2012 Ford Fiesta struts its stuff in exciting statement colors that are complimented by the two new interior packages which add coordinating pops of color in the two-tone seats, center stack, steering wheel, and door trim inserts.  Owners can choose from Oxford White or vibrant Race Red.

Ford has also pulled some inspiration from some of their European vehicles, which encouraged them to offer a new premium sport appearance package that fashions the Fiesta into a cooler more race-like version of itself.  With this package, the Fiesta will boast black mirrors, grille, headlight surrounds and rear hatch spoiler that exude confident style. To top it all off, any model equipped with a manual transmission will be dressed with 16-inch polished alloy wheels and not to mention a shorter final drive ratio to improve acceleration.

So if you’re looking to downsize without feeling like you’re downgrading or having to sacrifice your personal expression check out our Ford Fiesta Inventory and let us know right away if you have any questions. We would be more than happy to assist you.

Safe Teen Driving on The 4th of July

teen-drivingBRIGHTON, Mich. – The 4th of July is right around the corner and many people are getting ready to head up north, or to a parade, campground, lake, or fireworks show to enjoy the celebrations. While the 4th of July is a day meant to be a day to celebrate the birth of our country, it is also the worst day for traffic fatalities according to the IIHS. In fact, it's the deadliest day on average for America's teens. We wanted to take a moment to remind parents to talk to their teens about safe Teen Driving. Even though it may appear that your teen doesn’t want to hear your lecture, they will listen.

Remind your teen about texting-and driving – I’m sure you have told your kids over and over again not to text and drive but remind them again to drive the point home. If you are concerned that your teen is texting and driving there are apps like Phone Guard that prevent cell phone use while in a moving vehicle.
Remind your teen about other driving distractions – Eating, putting on makeup, and other teens in the car can be very distracting to teen and adult drivers alike. If munching on some snacks or putting on mascara are high-priority items then pull over to then park somewhere safe and resume driving when you’re done.

Remind your teen about good driving habits – It is important to emphasize good driving habits like using your turn signal when switching lanes, not only is it important for safe teen driving but it’s the law and you can get a ticket for not using your signals. Remember to check your mirrors before switching lanes too!

Remind your teen about the importance of designated drivers – I know teens shouldn’t be consuming alcohol in the first place and we DO NOT encourage underage drinking in any way, shape or form. That being said, many teens do drink and for the safety of those teens and everyone else on the road please please please DON’T drive! Always appoint a trustworthy sober driver. This is also a reminder for adults too! Watch for intoxicated drivers as well. Just because you made the right decision doesn’t mean everyone else will. Report drunk drivers to the proper authorities.

teen-driving
If you're going to drink stay where you are or appoint a sober driver. You can't afford to risk it!
Remind your teen about the importance of alert driving – drowsiness is the second cause of driving fatalities behind drinking and driving. Lots of people will be up late hanging out around the campfire roasting marshmallows and sharing stories until the wee hours of the morning. Make sue you get plenty of sleep before hitting the road home. Take a nap if you need to. If you start feeling drowsy while your driving, pull over, get some rest, and resume your trip when you are feeling awake and alert.

That’s the end of my worried mother speech. From all of us at Brighton Ford, I hope you have a wonderful Independence Day celebration!

Fashion FORD-ward

BRIGHTON, Mich.- When you think of automobiles, fashion is probably not the first thing that comes to mind.  However, Ford has changed the game by incorporating fashion into their vehicles in a way that most people might not recognize: through sustainable and global design convergence.  Sustainable fashion is a major trend emerging from the global initiative to “go green” meaning that when a product is created major consideration is taken in relation to the environmental and social impact it may have throughout the entire product lifecycle.

Did you know that the new Ford Focus Electric is composed of 100% sustainable materials! On top of that, Ford is the first automobile manufacturer to have achieved 35% recycled content in its interiors. To achieve this increased sustainability in their vehicles, Ford utilizes post-consumer recycled materials by converting recycled yarn into fabric for thinner lighter seats, upcycling nylon carpet into cyclinder head covers, and incorporating two pairs of recycled jeans into each car to absorb sound.

The auto manufacturer has also taken some inspiration from an iconic garment worn in Hispanic cultures called the guayabera, which features sustainable materials like natural linen while maintaining impeccable craftsmanship in the high quality stitching and pleating details.  Ford’s interior designer, Anthony Prozzi’s experience as a former fashion designer for Donna Karan is proving that Ford and fashion for hand in hand especially with the new 2013 Ford Fusion. “The thought that goes into designing a new vehicle is extensive and it’s very similar in many ways to the creative process fashion designers follow when they’re creating clothing,” says Prozzi.  Both the guayabera and Ford’s focus on high-end materials and attention to detail allow them to uphold their stylistic appeal and ability to turn heads on the street while reducing their impact on the environment, a prime example of today’s global design convergence.

Here at Brighton Ford we are always trying to look our best when we’re seen in our Ford. If you want to see what styles make us swoon head over to our Pinterest to check out our A Bit of Fashion board.

2013 Ford Focus ST Getting "Overboost" Feature

BRIGHTON, Mich. June 15, 2012 - By now most of you are probably aware that the upcoming 2013 Ford Focus ST is going to be fast - it is turbocharged after all - but Ford recently revealed a feature that takes the compact power even further. It's called "Overboost" and with the push of a button it will give speed-hungry Focus ST drivers a little extra kick.

The new Ford Focus ST sports a four-cylinder, direct-injected turbocharged engine and with the “overboost” feature drivers can extend the car's peak torque for up to 15 seconds at a time. The gains extend the peak torque from 3,000 rpm to 4,500 rpm. Other Ford EcoBoost vehicle would hit peak torque and start to drop off at these high speeds, but not the Focus ST!

To allow this sort of afterburner effect, Ford had to go out of their way to ensure the overclocked 2.0-liter EcoBoost had a very strong cooling system.
“The turbo itself is specified for sustained, high-output performance, but they’ve programmed the car’s computer to dial in more boost past 3,000 rpm to give it that extra something,” says engineer Lisa Schoder, who is Marketing manager for Focus ST.

“We limit peak turbo boost to maintain a wide margin of safety and durability over the life of the car,” Schoder adds. “But overboost is cool in that it tweaks more acceleration through the turbo for brief periods for performance-hungry drivers.”
Here's a nice infographic Ford released that gives us a better look at how the new Overboost feature will work. As you can see the peak torque drops off much slower with the Overboost engaged, providing up to 7.4% more output from 3,000 rpm ro 4,500 rpm.

Ford Celebrates 2013 Ford Escape Launch At Revamped Assembly Plant

BRIGHTON, Mich. June 14, 2012 – While we’ve already had a few 2013 Ford Escapes parked on our lot, things have really ramped up at the Louisville Assembly Plant where Ford executives celebrated the new crossover’s launch on Wednesday as it rolled down the line toward Brighton Ford!

The 57 year old Louisville factory used to be the facility that brought us the Ford Explorer, but Ford recently converted the location into a automotive monster that can crank out as many as six different vehicles, including the highly-anticipated 2013 Ford Escape.
"Today marks a celebration of progress and transformation," said Mark Fields, Ford's president of the Americas. "Louisville Assembly Plant's reinvention illustrates how Ford is going further, continuing to invest in American manufacturing and new jobs while delivering even more of the fuel-efficient vehicles that give customers true power of choice."
Given the response and recent demand consumers have had for Ford vehicles this year, Ford has had to increase the amount of shifts at Louisville and other assembly plants. In fact, Louisville alone already added nearly 2,000 jobs for a second shift and plans to add a third, bringing in another 1,300 jobs. While these may not be jobs for us Michiganders, Ford has added more than 1,200 jobs to the Michigan Assembly Plant that makes the 2013 Ford Focus.

But let’s get back to Louisville. We’re really intrigued by how a single Assembly Plant can put out 6 different vehicles. So how do they do it? Apparently, it’s all in the tools. That’s right, Ford’s new reprogrammable tooling not only allows the factory to create six models, but it lets them assemble six different models at the same time, making it Ford’s most flexible U.S. assembly plant to date.
"Manufacturing flexibility is critical to staying competitive in today's global automotive marketplace," said Jim Tetreault, Ford vice president of North America Manufacturing. "Our ability to produce up to six vehicles from a single plant gives us a sizable advantage in quickly adjusting our products and volumes to match changes in customer preferences and market factors."

2013 Ford C-Max and C-Max Energi Coming Soon To Brighton Ford

BRIGHTON, Mich. June 12, 2012 – We are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the 2013 Ford C-Max and C-Max Energi and to see it driving around Brighton. One reason the 2013 C-Max is unique is that it is the first ever Hybrid-only vehicle line from Ford in North America.  The C-Max line offers all of Ford’s great technology features and has even taken some of them to the next level making this vehicle both versatile and practical.

The C-Max Energi has an illuminated charge port located near the driver’s door for quick and easy plug in access. When the cord is plugged in, the ring around it illuminates letting you know it is charging. While the vehicle is charging the ring will flash and once the battery is fully charged the ring will stay solidly lit. The available 8-inch display in the center provides real-time information to help you get the most from your C-MAX Hybrid or C-MAX Energi. It provides a unique visual of green leaves and vines in the clusters representing your driving efficiency. Add the SYNC technology and MyFord Touch that you know and love and you have one superior technological machine.

The Efficiency Leaves give drivers a visual representation of the fuel they are saving and the emissions they are helping to reduce
Just because the C-Max and C-Max Energi aren’t “regular gas-engines” doesn’t mean you’ll be sacrificing all of the vehicles horsepower. In fact, the 2.0L hybrid I-4 powertrain that is combined with the electric motor to generate a projected 188 total system horsepower, delivering the responsive power you want when you need it.

You’re probably thinking that if the C-Max can get that kind of power and fuel-efficiency then it has to be way to small to fit passengers comfortably and has no cargo room. WRONG! The 2013 Ford C-Max can comfortably seat up to 5 passengers and when you don’t have backseat passengers, the seats fold down with the 60/40 split, providing a flat load floor. The C-MAX Hybrid and C-MAX Energi are clever vehicles with versatile storage capabilities. If you want to store smaller items and keep everything out of view, there’s a hidden compartment in the footwell of the second row behind the driver’s seat. Just lift up the floor mat and there’s room for everything from coloring books to a tablet PC.

If you have any questions about the new 2013 Ford C-Max and C-Max Energi, please contact us right away. We would be more than happy to assist you.

Latest 2013 Ford Focus ST Video Was Filmed By Fans!

BRIGHTON, Mich. June 7, 2012 - A few weeks ago Ford set out to create one of their most unique TV commercials ever. No, it's not in 3D and its not loaded with CGI effects. In fact, it just the opposite. The commercial, showing off the very cool 2013 Ford Focus ST, was shot entirely by Ford fans.

That's right, Ford Insiders were invited to line the streets of Florida's Key West and watch as Ford Racing's Tanner Foust and Greg Tracy screamed through a narrow street racing course to show us just what the Focus ST is all about. During the action fans and spectators were encouraged to have their smartphones and digital cameras ready to capture the action for the world to see, and that's exactly what they did. Check it out below!

Apparently, the crowd of spectators expert video crew had upload stations on location so they could get their footage and add it to the library as soon as the cars moved on. Ford couldn't have done it without these dedicated fans and if you've watched the video yourself I think you'll agree that the final product turned pretty darn well.

The experience of watching a still unreleased car whooshing by at break-neck speeds in the middle of Key West had to be a great a experience, and those of you who were able to be a part of the first spectator-created Ford commercial should give yourself a pat on the back. As for the rest of us, I guess we'll just be here re-watching the videos, hoping we can make it next time.
