Pet Of The Week: Nancy The Purrfect Cat
My name is Nancy. I am a VERY friendly, pretty, short hair, (spayed) female, brown tiger born in 2013. I recently lived in a home with adults and a dog and did great. I am a very curious, playful girl who has always used my litter box and enjoys a good scratching post. My former owner says I love to play and run around with my toys, especially things with feathers. I love attention and will follow you around the house to part of whatever you’re doing!

5 Things Every Driver Needs To Know About Brake Pads
Simple tips on extending their life span and when you should get them changed.
To put it simply, driving is a matter of stopping and going. That’s why brake pads, which induce the act of stopping, are one of your vehicle’s most important parts. Without a proper set, you could be at risk of an accident on the road. So it’s a good idea to understand how they work and when to replace them.
TIP 1. REALIZE THEY WEAR DOWN WITH TIME
The first thing you should know is that it’s not in a brake pad’s nature to last forever; in order to stop your vehicle, they squeeze the brake rotors to create friction, meaning they receive a lot of wear and tear. How quickly they diminish is based on a number of factors, from the material they’re made of to how hard you push them while driving. As a result, it’s difficult to give them an average life span. But there are certain things you can do to help them last longer.
TIP 2. AVOID PUTTING THE PEDAL TO THE METAL
Sharp braking or braking frequently at high speeds will quickly wear brake pads down. You can help change this by anticipating stops sooner and braking gradually. Even avoiding hilly roads and rough terrain can be beneficial to your brakes’ overall health. Also, the heavier a vehicle is, the harder it is on the brake pads, so carrying substantial cargo for long periods of time will require you to change your brake pads more frequently.
TIP 3. LISTEN FOR WARNING SIGNS
Perhaps the most important thing to do is take heed of any warning signs that it might be time to replace your brake pads. The longer you wait, the less responsive they become, which will reduce their ability to do the one thing they are designed to do: stop your vehicle. Brakes are designed to begin making subtle when they need to be replaced. By the time you start hearing screeching and grinding noises (perhaps caused by the deteriorated pads rubbing against the rotors), some damage could have already occurred. If you push it beyond that stage, serious rotor deterioration could become an issue—an expensive fix.
TIP 4. MAKE SURE THOSE NOISES AREN’T JUST NORMAL
Importantly, hearing noises doesn’t always mean your brakes need replacing. Cold weather, for example, may cause them to screech the first couple times you apply the brake (the friction warms them quickly, so the sounds should disappear relatively soon). Even things like dust, sand and humidity can lead to various forms of clamor. The only way to truly tell is to get them checked by an expert. They can determine if it’s a normal noise or something more serious. Go to the Brighton Ford Service site to view service specials near Ann Arbor or even schedule an appointment online.
TIP 5. GET THEM CHECKED REGULARLY BY A SERVICE PROFESSIONAL
A good rule of thumb is to have your brakes inspected every time you have your oil changed. With The Works Fuel Saver Package, you can have them inspected and rated based on how close you are to needing replacements. If it is time for a change, Brighton Ford auto repair offers deals for brake installation, including the recent Lifetime Brake Pad Guarantee* for eligible, recently purchased Motorcraft® brake pads. The importance of this will kick in later, when you have to make a sudden stop on the road. In those moments, effective brake pads can make all the difference.

Adopt The Brighton Ford Pet Of The Week Mia!
My name is Mia. I am a beautiful, black and white, short hair (spayed) female with green eyes born in Feb 2016, so I am just one year old! I was found outside in the cold until a kind person brought me to the shelter to be kept safe until I can find a loving home. I was very frightened, but after spending time in a loving foster home, I am learning to trust people, so now it is time for me to find my forever home.

Drop-off Donations For Mothers on Mother’s Day At Brighton Ford
We are collecting women's hygiene items for LACASA - Livingston County, MI all month long. Thanks to TWO MEN AND A TRUCK in Brighton for organizing this drive special for Mother's Day!
#BelieveInOurCommunity
Learn more about the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK Program Movers for Mom’s:
Working with charities and giving back to the community is a high priority here at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®, and one of our top campaigns, Movers for Moms®, has kicked off.
When Mary Ellen Sheets founded the company in 1985, one of the main goals she had was using her platform as a business owner to help others any way she could. The Movers for Moms® program focuses on helping mothers in need around the time of Mother’s Day by providing them with essential care items they need most. While most moms are being celebrated during Mother’s Day, many are living in shelters due to unfortunate circumstances in their lives. This campaign aims to make this day a little more enjoyable for them, and to show appreciation and compassion for all they do.
“From day one, Mary Ellen took care of charities, and the brand has raised the bar even as we continue to drive our vision and achieve success,” said TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® CEO Jeff Wesley. “To have our own charity that is integrated within the brand and supporting moms in need is something to be so proud of. The hard work of every TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® location and team member, along with the impact they have, is just phenomenal. I am so proud of the Movers for Moms® program and all of the locations dedicated to moving moms forward.”
The program was created by TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® in 2007 and is the most successful campaign the system sees throughout the year. Since the program’s creation, we have been able to collect over 800,000 items that have been donated.
TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® partners with local businesses, organizations, and schools, along with women’s, family, and homeless shelters in their communities to make this all possible, donating trucks and manpower to pick up and deliver charitable items that are donated to recipient shelters. Donation items vary from shelter to shelter, but often include things like soaps, hair styling products, shampoos, conditioners, pillows, blankets, slippers, and other clothing items.
2016 was the most successful year of Movers for Moms® to date, as we were able to collect more than 285,000 items! The program took place in 39 states, and each franchise location for TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® participated last year. We were able to partner with more than 400 businesses, schools, and community centers across the country to make this all possible.
If you would like to donate items locally, please drop them off at the Brighton Ford Showroom and if you have any questions please email Movers4Moms@twomen.com.

Help Brighton Ford Help The Humane Society of Livingston County
Many have already drove by the Brighton Ford billboards around Livingston and Oakland County expressways and know that we support our community! One local organization has really earned a spot in many Brighton Ford employees and customers hearts, is the Humane Society of Livingston County. Help us support this great organization with much needed donations that keep this non-profit running. And if making a monetary donation isn’t in your cards, then there are many other ways to help: volunteer or rescue your next pet from the Humane Society on Door Road in Howell.
A Brief Background on the Humane Society of Livingston County
There are many reasons animals end up in shelters. Financial hardships, personal health problems, or death of an owner often leave very few options for people to keep their pets. The majority of animals coming into our shelter are surrendered by owners who can no longer care for their pets. Our shelter provides peace of mind for these pet owners as well as a safe haven, compassion, and medical care for lost, abandoned, abused, or neglected animals until we can find a suitable, loving home for each one. Thanks to our staff, volunteers, adopters, and supporters we are ranked among the highest performing shelters in Michigan for animal save rates and adoptions, so you can feel good knowing each animal is receiving the highest quality care possible while we work hard to find them a home. In 2010 and 2012, we were recognized by the Michigan Pet Fund Alliance as the “Outstanding Limited Admission Shelter in Michigan.” for having the highest save rates with the greatest number of adoptions!

Car Tip Of The Week: How To De-Ice Your Locks
Remember the good old days when you had to carry around a de-icer in case your car door lock froze? Well, thanks to the invention of hand sanitizer with alcohol there is virtually no need for de-icer. Most of us use our key fob to lock and unlock our cars, but many older, custom and classic vehicles don’t have key fobs and must be unlocked (the old fashioned way) with a key. For those who unlock their trucks or cars with a key, this one tip could save you a lot of hassle in the winter time. If you find your lock is frozen, then simply add a squirt of hand sanitizer on your key, insert in the door and turn back and forth…amazingly your lock will unfreeze and you can get in your vehicle and be on your way.
If you are experiencing problems that you can’t seem to tackle on your own, bring in your car, truck or SUV into the Brighton Ford Service Department. We can help get your car back in primo shape and get you back on the road again. We service all makes and models and our Ford Certified Technicians are simply the best. If you need car repair in Michigan, give us a call at 810-227-1171 or click here for more information on our auto service facility near Ann Arbor.

Donate Your Passenger Seat To Help Save Lives
Volunteers are needed to drive cancer patients to treatment.
One of the biggest roadblocks to cancer treatment can be transportation. That's why the American Cancer Society Road To Recovery program provides patients with free rides. And we need your help. Because even though our volunteers have driven hundreds of thousands of patients to their cancer treatment - the need continues to grow. You already have one of the most crucial instruments in cancer care. And it's been next to you the whole time your passenger seat.
All You Need Is:
-A Good driving record
-A current, valid driver’s license
-Access to a safe and reliable vehicle
-Proof of adequate automotive insurance
-Complete an American Cancer Society training course
-Availability Monday through Saturday during the hours of 7am and 7pm
How do you get started?
-Sign up and take our training course, which includes a 15 minute, new volunteer orientation video, and a 45 minute, Road to Recovery course.
-Complete the volunteer profile. This form collects volunteer information such as hours of availability, and asks for information to complete background checks.
-A background check for the prior three-year period.
How are ride requests coordinated?
Upon completion of the on-boarding process, volunteer drivers will begin to receive ride requests from their Road To Recovery coordinator.
-Volunteers will be matched to ride requests based on their profile.
-When a driver accepts a ride, they are responsible for confirming with the patient one to two days prior to the ride.
-Once a ride request is accepted, it is expected that the volunteer driver will carry out the ride unless an emergency arises.
To volunteer in your community or for more information, visit cancer.org/drive, contact your local American Cancer Society office or call 1-800-227-2345.

Pet Of The Week Adopted: Halley
Our Pet Of The Week from mid February Halley, the gorgeous, short hair (spayed) female calico born July 2013, has been adopted! We are so glad that she has found her forever home. Halley had a sad story before entering the Humane Society of Livingston County’s doors: she had a happy, loving home until, sadly, her owner passed away and the family could not keep her. It’s Baby Season At The Howell Nature Center!
This is the busiest time of the year for Howell Nature Center's Wildlife Clinic. Rather than subject you and the wild babies to the ordeal of a baby shower, they invite you to send a gift to these little ones.
Each year, Howell Nature Center takes in close to 3,000 injured or orphaned, birds, mammals and reptiles in need of a second chance at life in the wild. Most are orphans requiring specialized care. The newborns you'll be helping include fawns, rabbits, ducklings, squirrels, fox kits, hawks, owls, songbirds and more!
An ever-growing number of these creatures need our help. The Howell Nature Center's Wildlife Clinic greatly appreciates your tax-deductible contribution in support of restoring these precious lives to their natural habitat. Simply donate online on their website today.
