Waze Brings Community-Based Traffic & Navigation App To Ford Vehicles With SYNC 3

Through AppLink™, Ford is integrating Waze’s array of features with SYNC 3 infotainment system, allowing users to operate Waze completely through a vehicle’s touch screen as well as with voice commands

Using Waze inside your Ford vehicle is about to get easier than it’s ever been. Thanks to new integration with Ford SYNC® AppLink™, Waze users will soon be able to project real-time traffic and navigation information onto Ford’s SYNC 3 touch screen and access the services by voice commands.

First unveiled at CES 2018, the full-featured integration – which includes in-vehicle integration for iOS – means Ford customers can simply plug their Waze-equipped smartphone into the USB port of their vehicle, and once plugged in, Waze will project onto its touch screen. This allows users to access the app’s features conveniently on a larger display and with their vehicle’s own sound system.

All the great features Waze users have come to know will be accessible through Ford’s integration of the software. This includes recent updates such as Talk to Waze, which allows you to control the app with voice commands, and HOV route support, which provides additional navigation options and arrival times based on high-occupancy-vehicle lanes (carpool lanes).

“Our goal is to bring a human-centered approach to technology in the vehicle, making it as easy as possible for people to integrate the tools that matter most to them,” said Don Butler, Ford executive director, Connected Vehicle and Services. “With the flexibility of our SYNC 3 software and AppLink, customers can easily use Waze to get all the traffic and navigation help they need – on a big screen and without having to fiddle around with their phones while driving.”

To deliver optimal driving directions and traffic updates, Waze uses crowd-sourcing to gather information about road conditions from all of its users. People simply type in their destination and drive with the app open to contribute data to Waze’s community of users. At the same time, people can take a more active role by sharing reports from the road, including notifying the community of previously unknown accidents, hazards or route changes.

By working together, people can help each other improve the quality of their commute. Waze can help commuters avoid congested roads in favor of other routes, or see when their friends are expected to arrive at their destination. Waze users can even help each other save a few dollars by sharing gas prices as they travel, allowing people to navigate to the cheapest nearby gas station.

“Since announcing the partnership between Waze and Ford at Mobile World Congress 2017, we’ve been working hard to optimize and evolve the experience for the driver community,” said Jens Baron, product lead for B2B and in-car applications at Waze. “We are happy to showcase our partnership with Ford through AppLink SDL on iOS – a seamless in-car navigation experience that connects Waze navigation to your car’s console. With SDL, Waze guidance is presented onto the driver’s in-car screen and new features are made available as soon as they are released. With SDL, drivers get the most updated version from Waze – with all the new features and design releases, the same as driving with Waze on your phone.”

At launch in the coming weeks, any 2018 model year Ford vehicle equipped with SYNC 3 version 3.0 or greater will be able to run Waze on its touch screen. Other SYNC 3-enabled Ford vehicles can receive an over-the-air update or an update via USB to enable Waze functionality.

In addition to Waze, Ford is bringing other SYNC AppLink integrations onboard. Customers will soon be able to use iHeartRadio to access thousands of live radio stations or create their own personalized stations based on their favorite artists and songs. Meanwhile, Ford will be giving productivity a boost by incorporating WebEx functionality with SYNC 3 as well, offering people web conferencing opportunities on the fly.

Ford is also featuring its recently released Ford+Alexa app at CES. The app gives customers access to all 25,000 of Amazon’s Alexa skills, including the abilities to play music, check news reports and add items to shopping lists.

Ford Motor Co. Goes to the Extreme in Cold Weather Testing

Ford Motor Co. Goes to the Extreme in Cold Weather Testing

BRIGHTON, Mich. - Just living through one Michigan winter is enough to understand that cold-weather testing is a VERY important aspect of vehicle design. Ford Motor Co. goes to the extreme in cold weather testing, pushing its vehicles through the worst weather conditions imaginable at the McKinley Climatic Laboratory at Eglin Air Force Base in the Florida panhandle.

Ford Motor Co. Goes to the Extreme in Cold Weather TestingFord tests vehicles of all sizes – from the Focus to the F-150 Super Duty – at this state-of-the-art military facility, which pushes the limits of extreme cold-weather testing in order to improve vehicle quality and performance. Engineers at the facility can bring the temperatures down to minus 40 degrees Fahrenheit in a span of just 10 hours. The hot and humid climate of the western part of Florida has little to no effect on the frigid temperatures inside the facility which makes it ideal for simulating the icy conditions of a winter in Alaska's Prudhoe Bay or Canada's Yellowknife region.

Typically, engineers are nowhere near a naturally frigid environment in the middle of the automotive development stage. This stage just so happens to be around the middle of the summertime, thus Ford engineers flock to this facility to test their models in the most frigid temperatures available to them.

Even though most us are not working the frozen regions of Alaska or the Yellowknife region of Canada, Michigan winters can get pretty dangerous, which is why feeling confident in your automobile during the winter is so essential. Engineers have the opportunity to accommodate 75 global production models of various sizes for the rigorous testing. For example, thanks to this rigorous testing, Ford's engineering team was able to recognize  that replacing the metallic plugs in the 6.7-liter engine that powers the current F-Series Super Duty with ceramic gold ones enabled the engine to heat up more quickly and efficiently for a more powerful start.

It's very comforting to know that Ford goes to the extreme in cold weather testing, all to be 100% sure and confident that its vehicles can take you through almost ANYTHING the winter environment can throw at you.  If you would like to stop by and take ANY of our cold weather certified vehicles, feel free! Stop and chat with any of certified sales associates who will be happy to help you find your perfect vehicle. Have some questions about your current models cold weather preparedness? Our excellent service team can answer all of your questions! Stop by your Howell Area Used Car Dealer  today! Brighton Ford is located at 8240 Grand River Ave. just north of I-96 in Brighton. Ford Motor Company Has Figured Out A Way To Keep Spiders Out Of Your Vehicle

Ford Motor Company Has Figured Out A Way To Keep Spiders Out Of Your Vehicle

BRIGHTON, Mich. - Nothing is more frightening than driving down I-96 and seeing out of the corner of your eye an eight-legged passenger by your face! That gave us goosebumps just typing it out, and it has happened to just about everyone. Thankfully for us, Ford Motor Company has figured out a way to keep spiders OUT of your vehicle

It looks like Ford engineers have turned into exterminators — for our sanity! There is actually a very common spider species that likes to nest directly under the hood of your vehicle and it can potentially cause big problems which include possible fuel tank cracks that can ignite vehicle fires. The solution to this problem? A state-of-the-art new cylindrical "spider screen" which is being installed on all Ford vehicles starting with the 2016 Focus RS.

Ford Motor Company Has Figured Out A Way To Keep Spiders Out Of Your VehicleThe specific arachnid in question is the common Yellow Sac Spider which — according to Michigan State University— is believed to be the spider responsible for more bites to humans than any other spider. This species of spider also is quite the popular car invader as it commonly seeks out car fuel vapor lines to build cocoons for laying eggs or taking shelter.

When a spider spins a web inside the fuel vapor lines, it can cause blockages that disrupt the flow of the fuel vapor which can generate engine damage. Interestingly a strand of a yellow sac spider's web is as strong as an equally thick strand of steel, according to Ford.

Ford Motor Company has figured out a way to keep spiders out of your vehicle with the Ford patented "spider screen". The screen is just a little bit wider and shorter than the average pinky finger and prevents spiders from entering the fuel lines while also maintaining proper air and vapor flow. It looks like the Yellow Sac Spider and its friends might need to find a new hiding place to spin their webs!

This is just a small example of how Ford Motor Company is always coming up with new ways to make their vehicles better for their customers, and you can count on Ford to always be at the front lines of innovation and technology in the world of automobiles. Think you might want to get your engine's interior fuel vapor line checked for creep crawlies? Stop by your Hartland Area Auto Service Center today! New Sport Mode In The 2015 F-150

New Sport Mode in the 2015 F-150

BRIGHTON, MI – There’s a new sport mode in the 2015 F-150. Ford engineers have combined the sport mode from the new Mustang into the lightweight F-150 for the ultimate driving experience.

Since the Mustang and F-150 were developed around the same time they were also test-driven on the same trips. After the F-150 was driven engineers realized how well the reduced weight design accelerated, so engineers put their heads together and the sport mode was added.

To activate the sport mode, drivers simply press the tow/haul button twice and an amber “S” will appear in the bottom-right of the tachometer. Sport mode works by lowering the frequency of gearshifts and keeping the truck in its “sweet spot” of the powerband. The transmission holds lower gears for a longer period of time to make driving more responsive and fun.

When the F-150 is in sport mode the driver doesn’t have to push the pedal down as far to reach accelerate. Over the experience gives truck drivers much more control and gives the truck more liveliness. Another feature of the F-150's transmission is the capability to match engine rpm while downshifting in slowing to go around a corner. This technology came right from the Mustang as well.

The new sport mode in the 2015 F-150 is standard now and you can activate it in any drive. You can see all of our 2015 Ford F-150 inventory online, or stop by and check 'em out in the flesh! Does your current truck need a little TLC? Well bring it by our Brighton Area Car Repair Center today to get your next tune-up! Tips to Stay Cool in Your Ford This Summer

Tips to Stay Cool in Your Ford This Summer

BRIGHTON, MI – The past couple weeks have been really hot and humid in Michigan! We want to give you a few tips on how to stay cool in your Ford vehicle this summer. These tips will help keep your air conditioner running efficiently and make you more comfortable during your commute.
  1. The moment you get into your vehicle, roll your windows down. This will release all the hot air that’s trapped inside.

  2. Turn you’re A/C on max to cool everything down. It shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes for this to happen. The A/C in your Ford vehicle works very well, having as much power as an air conditioner in a small house.

  3. If you get too cold, don’t keep switching the air on and off. Try to find a constant temperature that you’re comfortable in.

  4. When it’s not too hot out, roll your windows down. This is good when you’re driving around town or making a quick trip.

  5. Always try to park in the shade or use a reflective windshield shade. This will lower your cabin temperature when you get in the car so you won't have to blast the air right away.

  6. If your vehicle has a moonroof, always close the roof shade. This will help reduce the amount of sun shining into your car and lower the cabin temperature as well.

  7. If you have a remote start on your vehicle, remember to set the climate temperature before you get out of your car. This way your car is already cool before you even get in.
Follow these tips to stay cool in your Ford this summer. Also remember it’s important to keep up on the maintenance of your vehicle, like changing the air filter and replacing your refrigerant when needed. This will keep you’re A/C running efficiently. If your A/C needs some work done stop by our dealership for your auto service in the Brighton areaBrighton Ford is located at 8240 Grand River Ave. just north of I-96 in Brighton. We are a family owned and operated business that strives for customer satisfaction. For more information on Brighton Ford visit BrightonFord.com or give us a call at (800) 836-8206.

Ford Introduces An Apollo Inspired, Limited Edition Mustang

Ford Introduces An Apollo Inspired, Limited Edition Mustang

BRIGHTON, Mich. - In celebration of the successful history of the Apollo space missions, Ford introduces an Apollo inspired, limited edition Mustang that will be auctioned off at a charity auction this month! The auction will be to benefit EAA youth aviation education programs, including the Young Eagles, which Ford Motor Co. has raised about $3 million for in recent years.

As far as limited-edition Mustangs go, this one is the King of the galaxy! This will be the eighth straight year that Ford Motor Co. has created a unique, aviation-inspired pony car to benefit the Experimental Aircraft Association youth education programs. The Apollo-inspired Mustang will be donated and sold via auction on July 23rd at the Gathering of the Eagles event at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2015, which is the "World's Greatest Aviation Celebration".

When Ford introduces an Apollo inspired, limited edition Mustang, it sure goes all out! This impressive pony car is modeled after the '15 fastback GT, and the team was led by Ford Design Manager Melvin Betencourt. The exterior is a beautiful one-of-a-kind glossy pure white and pure black non-production paint scheme that truly delivers a creative connection with the NASA space program. The best part of the custom designed exterior, however, HAS to be the unique LED underbody lighting that symbolizes atmospheric re-entry. How cool is that?! (see below for a close-up)

This space shuttle of a car will also come with an impressive array of performance enhancements that include a performance package, Ford Performance supercharger and shifter, X-pipe with side and rear exhaust, sport-tuned suspension, six-piston Brembo brakes and custom Forgiato 21-inch performance wheels. If you want the opportunity to see or bid on this beautiful vehicle, it will be on display in the Ford hanger at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2015. To bid and participate in the auction you must pre-qualify by contacting EAA development office, (800)236-1025 or by donor@eaa.org.

Ford Motor Company Works Overtime To Meet Demand

Ford Motor Company Works Overtime To Meet Demand

BRIGHTON, Mich. - The Ford Motor Company works overtime to meet demand this summer, as the automaker shortens the summer shutdown to meet demand for Ford F-Series Trucks, Edge, Escape and Explorer models. Due to customer demand, especially with the all-new aluminum based Ford F-150, Ford will add capacity this summer to produce its most popular models. Ford plans on shortening the summer shutdown from the traditional two-weeks to one week for the majority of North American assembly plants, which will increase production by up to 40,000 units.

In April, sales were up over 70 percent for the Ford Edge, and the Ford F-150 was turning over after just 20 days on dealer lots while the Escape and Explorer remained in very tight supply. The demand for Ford Motor Company's trucks and utility vehicles continues to trend upward and this is the third straight year the automative dealer has had to keep plants open during the summer shutdown in order to meet the strong demand. Assembly plants being shut down include Chicago, Dearborn Truck, Kansas City, Louisville and Oakville. The power-train and stamping plants taking a reduced summer shutdown this year also include: Livonia Transmission; Rawsonville Transmission; Sharonville Transmission; Sterling Axle; Buffalo Stamping; Chicago Stamping; Dearborn Consolidated; Kansas City Stamping and Woodhaven Stamping.

Due to such a high demand for trucks and utility vehicles, Ford Motor Company is working overtime to meet demand this summer. Over the past few years, Ford has invested $6.2 billion and added more than 15,000 jobs in stateside facilities to help meet consumer demand for its newest products. You can bet that we'll keep the great trucks, utilities, crossovers and cars coming all summer long here at Brighton FordBrighton Ford is located at 8240 Grand River Ave. just north of I-96 in Brighton. We are a family owned and operated business that strives for customer satisfaction.

Ford Motor Company Named A 2015 World's Most Ethical Company

Ford Motor Company Is Names A 2015 World's Most Ethical Company

BRIGHTON, Mich. – This year, for the sixth year in a row, the Ford Motor Company is named a 2015 World's Most Ethical Company by Ethisphere Institute and was the only automaker to do so. Ethisphere honors companies for leading in ethics and compliance, corporate citizenship and responsibility; culture of ethics, governance and leadership; innovation; and reputation. A corporation's reputation for ethics and trust plays a large role in customer purchase decisions, research finds.

Not surprisingly, this distinct honor comes at a time in which the way a company conducts its business is perceived as every bit as vital as the products and services it provides. Ford Motor Company Executive Chariman Bill Ford states; "The award celebrates doing business the right way, and making the right choices everyday. Ethics and corporate citizenship are important factors that affect a company's reputation an overall success, and we are proud that Ford Motor Company is the only automaker to have received this honor for six consecutive years."

This is an award that is especially important for Ford moving forward, especially in regards to shaping customers of the millennial and Gen Z generations. Last year a 2015 Harris Poll concluded that 53% of the U.S public learned more about a company before doing business with the corporation. More than a third of participants decided not to do business with a company based on the perception of a negative reputation. In the age of Social Media, public relations play a big role in the success of any automotive company moving forward.
