Brighton Ford Plants Pinwheel Garden For National Child Abuse Prevention Month

LACASA Center’s Child Abuse Prevention (CAP) Council hosts its annual Plant a Pinwheel Celebration each April to commemorate National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Blue pinwheels are the national symbol for child abuse and neglect prevention. The pinwheel is an uplifting reminder of childhood and the bright futures that all children deserve.

The Pinwheel Garden project symbolizes the community’s commitment to protect the children of Livingston County, which is why Brighton Ford has planted their pinwheel garden at their dealership on Grand River in Brighton, MI.

2018 Tour de Livingston Celebration Party

We had a great time at this year’s Tour de Livingston Celebration Party!  Brighton Ford is proud to support this great event that gives back so much to our community.

The Tour de Livingston ride provides an opportunity for our riders to enjoy outstanding fall colors during the peak color season in southeast Michigan. This fully supported ride includes hospitality tents, a full breakfast (sponsored by Brighton Ford), snacks along the route, and a hearty meal prepared by the chef at Mt. Brighton.

All proceeds from this event help to: bridge the gap for local hardworking families struggling to meet their most basic needs; prepare every child to be ready for success; and build a healthy community for all residents via the Livingston County United Way Basic Needs Programs.

Since its start in 2008, the Tour de Livingston has raised over $370,000 to address the community’s most critical needs!

The Tour de Livingston is organized and run by the Howell Rotary Club. The Howell Rotary Club was established in 1924.

Drop Your Toys For Tots Donations Off At Brighton Ford

Brighton Ford is proud to be a Toys For Tots drop-off site for yet another year.  This is a great program that brings Christmas joy to many kids in need during the holiday season.  Drop off a new, unwrapped toy in our Showroom all holiday season long and we will deliver it to the  U. S. Marine Corps Reserve program for them to distribute to those who have fallen on hard times.  Bringing a smile to these kids’ faces during this time of year is such a rewarding feeling…

The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.  The objectives of Toys for Tots are to help less fortunate children throughout the United States experience the joy of Christmas; to play an active role in the development of one of our nation’s most valuable resources – our children; to unite all members of local communities in a common cause for three months each year during the annual toy collection and distribution campaign; and to contribute to better communities in the future.

Drop Off Your Movers for Moms Donations At Brighton Ford

We are collecting women's hygiene items for LACASA - Livingston County, MI all month long. Thanks to TWO MEN AND A TRUCK in Brighton for organizing this drive special for Mother's Day! #BelieveInOurCommunity

Learn more about the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK Program Movers for Mom’s:

Working with charities and giving back to the community is a high priority here at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®, and one of our top campaigns,  Movers for Moms®, has kicked off.

When Mary Ellen Sheets founded the company in 1985, one of the main goals she had was using her platform as a business owner to help others any way she could. The Movers for Moms® program focuses on helping mothers in need around the time of Mother’s Day by providing them with essential care items they need most. While most moms are being celebrated during Mother’s Day, many are living in shelters due to unfortunate circumstances in their lives. This campaign aims to make this day a little more enjoyable for them, and to show appreciation and compassion for all they do.

“From day one, Mary Ellen took care of charities, and the brand has raised the bar even as we continue to drive our vision and achieve success,” said TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® CEO Jeff Wesley. “To have our own charity that is integrated within the brand and supporting moms in need is something to be so proud of. The hard work of every TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® location and team member, along with the impact they have, is just phenomenal. I am so proud of the Movers for Moms® program and all of the locations dedicated to moving moms forward.”

The program was created by TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® in 2007 and is the most successful campaign the system sees throughout the year. Since the program’s creation, we have been able to collect over 800,000 items that have been donated.

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® partners with local businesses, organizations, and schools, along with women’s, family, and homeless shelters in their communities to make this all possible, donating trucks and manpower to pick up and deliver charitable items that are donated to recipient shelters. Donation items vary from shelter to shelter, but often include things like soaps, hair styling products, shampoos, conditioners, pillows, blankets, slippers, and other clothing items.

2016 was the most successful year of Movers for Moms® to date, as we were able to collect more than 285,000 items! The program took place in 39 states, and each franchise location for TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® participated last year. We were able to partner with more than 400 businesses, schools, and community centers across the country to make this all possible.

If you would like to donate items locally, please drop them off at the Brighton Ford Showroom and if you have any questions please email Movers4Moms@twomen.com.

Check Out The Many Faces Of Garrett, The Brighton Ford Pet Of The Week!

Garrett is a very SWEET and easygoing 3-year-old neutered male with a rad looking gray color! Humane Society of Livingston County doesn’t know too much about me because I was a shelter transfer. They have spent time with me and have learned that I’m a nice, adventurous and lovely boy who deserves the best. I enjoy your company, being pet and being brushed as well. If you look close enough, you can see that I have some peek-a-boo tiger stripes in my coat, how cool is that? I’ve been around other cats and seem to do well as long as they don’t annoy me!! I love to watch out the windows and lay in the sun. I can’t wait for my furrever home.

I’m very friendly and sweet and I love to play! I’m working on my leash walking! I can jump fences so my new family will need a very secure enclosed yard! No cats for me please but I could possibly live in a home with another dog but that would be on a case by case basis! I’m looking for my new family to love…do you think it could be yours?

Plant A Pinwheel To Prevent Child Abuse - LACASA

LACASA Center’s Child Abuse Prevention (CAP) Council hosts its annual Plant a Pinwheel Celebration each April to commemorate National Child Abuse Prevention Month. This year’s event is set for Wednesday, April 4, 2018.

The community gathers at the Howell Carnegie District Library for a presentation on child abuse prevention. The event culminates with children from area schools planting a Pinwheel Garden along the library’s front entrance.

Blue pinwheels are the national symbol for child abuse and neglect prevention. The pinwheel is an uplifting reminder of childhood and the bright futures that all children deserve.
The Pinwheel Garden project symbolizes the community’s commitment to protect the children of Livingston County.

LACASA’s Pinwheel Day is part of the national Pinwheels for Prevention campaign conducted each year by Prevent Child Abuse America.

Plant Your Own Garden
If your school, business or organization would like to plant a pinwheel garden in April, please contact LACASA’s CAP Coordinator, Holly Naylor, at 517-548-1350 or hnaylor@lacasacenter.org. Pebbles Has Made An Amazing Recovery & Is Ready To Be Adopted!

Hi! My name is Pebbles and I am a 10 year old (spayed) female, shorthair Tortishell cat! I am amazingly social and I LOVE people!!! I get along well with small dogs, cats and children but prefer a more quiet home if possible. I'm not quite sure about playing yet because I came from a house that was overrun with other cats and playing wasn't something I was able to do; I'd love for someone to be patient and show me how to do that! When I came to the Humane Society of Livingston County, I was so thin and sick that I could barely breathe and all my teeth were rotting out of my mouth, but since being in a foster and having all my teeth extracted I am loving life!! I eat extremely well and have gained 2 whole pounds!! Occasionally I will sneeze and my nose occasionally runs, but I think this is from my history of never having treatment for this before. I also have a runny left eye occasionally but all my foster mom does is wipe it once a day with a warm, damp washcloth - it doesn't need medication or anything! My favorite thing is being by my human family and being pet and loved! I will lie by your feet while you watch TV or read and enjoy being the center of attention! I purr non-stop and would love a family with other animals in the home or children that will surround me with love and attention for the rest of my life!!!

Adopt Brody, The Ambassador Of Hope

Hey, I'm Brody! I'm a gray & white, four-year-old, 50-pound hunk a hunk of burning love! I have every reason to be mad at the world but I am sweet as the day is long. I overheard some ladies here say that I was the poster child for neglect, but I would rather be in an ambassador of hope. I know I came in pretty dirty, super underweight, very hungry, with a huge wound on my tail ( which merited the surgical removal of some of it) and some pretty bad parasites in my tummy. No wonder I felt so yucky! Some nice people found me wandering on the road and brought me to this wonderful place. They really seem to love me here and everyone’s been super nice. I am eager to please them and thank them for their kindness. I am a very nice boy who deserves an equally nice home! If you have love in your heart and time in your life I would love to get to know you!

Adopt The Purr-fect Kitten Hobbs!

They call me Hobbs! I am an adorable, one year old, short hair, orange tabby who already had a very rough experience in my young life and almost did not survive! I was rescued by another shelter and then transferred here in desperate need of urgent medical care after suffering from extreme malnutrition, fleas and dehydration. Thankfully, I received the medical treatment and loving care in a foster home until I was healthy and now ready for adoption! I am still adjusting to being at the shelter and don’t like being confined in a cage or carrier, but once I am out, you will find I am a really sweet, playful, young boy who likes your attention and would be so happy to grow up in a loving family!

Adopt Sonny, The Yellow Lab With An Amazing Story!

Hi, I'm Sonny! I'm an 8 year old yellow lab. I'm a neutered male and I’m updated on all of my vetting! I came here from another shelter where I was found as a stray. When I got here I had a mass on my shoulder the size of my head, and the vet staff ran a test and found out I was also heart worm positive. I went into surgery to have my mass removed and Dr. Amy removed as much of the mass as she could, but it was intertwined with my muscle so she could not get it all. I then went home with one of the vet techs to recover, and that is where I will stay until I am adopted! My mass was benign, although it is something that may grow back slowly. I am staying with 2 other dogs and 2 cats right now. I don't mind any of my roommates, but I do not want to play with them. I have my own room in my foster house so when they are being annoying I have somewhere to get away from them. I LOVE my toys especially my tennis ball to play fetch with! I will throw my toy at you over and over again until you throw it for me. But since I have heart worm, I'm not supposed to play which is pretty frustrating for me. I had my heart worm treatments but it will take me about 6 months to fully recover from it. In that time I must stay inactive, so that my heart has time to heal. I am a very good boy in the house. I will not get on the furniture, even though my roommates do. I just like a warm blanket to lay on the floor next to your bed at night! If you sit on the floor with me sometimes I like to sit on your lap, until I find another toy I want to play with. I also have a human foster sister who is only a year old, and even though she wants to climb all over me, I really like her! I would be an amazing addition to any family, all I want is to have a human to love me and play fetch with me!

Be A Hero & Adopt Biological Brothers Batman & Cinder

Hi there! Our names are Batman and Cinder. We are two very handsome medium haired bonded brothers. We are a pair of commendable (neutered) males who truly enjoy your presence. Our past family says we have been around all ages, meaning adults, seniors and children and seem to do fine! We are friendly, tolerant and when in the mood – playful! We are considered seniors as we are both 8 years old.

Did we mention that we are BIOLOGICAL brothers? We prefer to be the only cats and would do best without other animals. We are both very loving and sweet boys.  Batman is an 8 year old male who is black and white and Cinder is an 8 year old male who is grey and white.

Adopt Skylar From The Humane Society of Livingston County Today!

Hi Everyone, I'm Skylar! I'm a 2 year old brown and white mixed breed! I'm spayed, micro-chipped, and up to date on vaccines! I was found wandering the streets of Detroit when some nice people picked me up and took me to DACC and they transferred me here! I would benefit if my new family took me to basic obedience classes so I can learn to be the best companion ever! I love to play outside in the yard with the staff here and play with toys! I will require a fenced in backyard in my new home since I was found as a stray. I may be able to live with another dog in the home, it would be on a case by case basis! I would do best with a family with older children because I am very jumpy right now but I'm working on that!

Adopt Boots & Morris To Make Your Valentine’s Day Complete

Boots and Morris - Bonded Brothers

We are a BONDED PAIR of front declawed, 8 year old BROTHERS ready to find a home together! We are enjoying time in a foster home. Make an appointment to meet us!

We are Boots and Morris, a bonded pair of sweet, 8 year old brothers who are affectionately known as “Boo and Mo” by our foster family. We were born 9/15/2009 and lived together in a very loving home since we were kittens until sadly, our owner developed health issues and could no longer care for us. Losing the only home we ever knew and coming to the shelter was very traumatizing for us, so thankfully, we are now staying in a GREAT foster home where we are relaxed, happy, and ready to find our new FOREVER home!

We are used to a quiet, indoor only, adult home, so that would be best for us again. We would be WONDERFUL companions for anyone living alone and would also have each other for companionship if left alone for a short time. We have been ok around some small dogs and other cats, but have never been around children so please keep that in mind.

Here is what our foster parents have to say about us…
Boots is an adventurous boy who likes to explore, look out the window, and climb the cat tower.  He LOVES to be petted and brushed and is a big PURR box! Morris was a bit shy at first, but LOVES to snuggle on your lap and is becoming more confident now to explore and play.  They are both VERY affectionate, enjoy a little catnip on occasion, and have excellent litter box habits. They are WONDERFUL, LOVING cats who have adjusted quickly to our home and find comfort in being together!

Boots – Male, short hair, Black & White, front declawed
Morris – Male, short hair, Orange & White, front declawed

Colonel Is Still Looking For His Forever Home!

Colonel, the Brighton Ford Pet Of The Week back in December, came to the Humane Society of Livingston County grossly obese and is on an extreme makeover diet!  He is still looking for his forever home!  He was the Companion Animal for an elderly man who passed away and Colonel's desperately looking for someone to connect with and serve in that way once again.  He is a black and white Cattle dog mix that is 7 years old. He needs someone who would commit to a disciplined exercise program with great nutrition.  He's anxious at the shelter because it's overwhelming for him there, so make your home Colonel's forever home.  He would probably be best as an only child where someone could focus their attention solely on him.  Colonel loves going for long walks and spending time outside, he would be a great family dog with someone who is able to give him a safe wonderful haven for the rest of his life.  Call the Humane Society of Livingston County to schedule some time with Colonel at 517-552-8050.

Scout, The Brighton Ford Pet Of The Week, Needs A Home!

I'm a very handsome, 4 year old, sweet and sassy king!

Hello there! I’m Scout, a very sweet, 4 year old black and white, long hair, (neutered), male. I do have a few rules on how I like to be handled and prefer to be petted when I ask, but once we get to know each other, you’ll find how great I am! I am front declawed and most definitely the king of all felines, therefore I would be happiest as an only pet so I can focus on ruling my kingdom. The staff here at the Humane Society of Livingston County say I can be a darling if you have patience to start out slow and form a lifelong friendship with me!

Scout can be seen posing for pictures in local neighborhoods, as he wants to appeal to all that are looking to adopt a loving cat!  Call the Humane Society of Livingston County to schedule a time to meet Scout to find out if he’s the perfect pet for you: (517) 552-8050

Meet Athena, The Sweet Dilute Calico Just Waiting To Be Adopted

Hello, I’m Athena, a GORGEOUS, VERY SWEET, 7 year old (spayed) female Dilute Calico. I was transferred from another shelter to the Humane Society of Livingston County where, thankfully, I have received proper medical care to manage my diabetic condition. I’m feeling GREAT now and ready to find my new forever home! I’m a VERY SWEET and GENTLE soul looking for a home where I can relax, enjoy nature watching from the window, and be part of your family’s daily routine. I’m a VERY friendly girl who LOVES to snuggle and will quickly charm my way into your heart with my alluring green eyes and sweet ways. I would do best in a relaxed home where I can receive lots of your attention and may be ok living with a nice dog or cat who respects my space.

Special needs: Athena’s diabetic condition will likely require insulin injections twice daily which she tolerates well. With good care, she can live a healthy, happy life. Our medical team will provide details to interested adopters.

Athena’s Foster Mom wants you to know what a sweet, good girl she is and how easy it is to care for her diabetic condition…

A Day in the Life of Athena

7:00 am   Athena gets her morning insulin shot. She walks right up to me to cuddle and say hi, takes her shot without a flinch, and continues to eat breakfast.

9:00 am   Athena rubs her head against my mother’s hand while she sleeps for some morning lovins then may nap on the window sill after watching the birds

12:00 pm   Athena may bat a feather toy a little and use her scratching post. She is very good about not scratching furniture. In the rare case she tries, all we need to do is gently push her down and she stops instantly.

1:00 pm   Athena sits on the couch and softly cries for attention. We come to see what is wrong. She just wants us to pick her up and take her into the room where everybody else is! She LOVES attention and to be held!

3:00 pm   A visitor comes by the house. Athena greets them. We have not seen a stranger that she didn’t charm right away! She loves everyone!

5:00 pm   We make dinner for ourselves. Athena is on sight to taste test for us! After a while, she goes back in her room because she is tired of the dogs. She does not particularly like them, but she copes well. We keep her separate from our other cat for now, but in time, they may get along.

7:00 pm
Time for Athena’s evening insulin shot. Again, she is an angel throughout the very quick and easy process. Just a little poke and off she goes! I fill up her food and water again and clean out her litter box.

8:00 pm   Athena sits quietly next to us as we watch TV together as a family. She is a very happy, sweet girl who is easy to please!

9:00 pm   Time for bed. Athena gets some treats as we tuck in. She loves her treats!

Whitney Is An Adorable, Sweet, 7 Year Old Girl Looking For A Special Friend This Holiday Season!

I am Whitney, a VERY SWEET, beautiful, all white, short hair, 7 year old (spayed) female with soft green eyes. I was surrendered when someone in my family developed severe allergies. They said I am a VERY SWEET, easy going girl who got along with kids, dogs, and other cats in my home – even when the cats were not very nice to me. I may be a little shy in new places, but warm up quickly and LOVE to be petted around my head and ears! I prefer not to be handled too much, but will sit on your lap once I feel safe and comfortable. I would make a great companion and loving friend for someone special.
