Ford SYNC 3 Software Update Supports Android Auto & Apple CarPlay on '17 & '16 Model-year Vehicles

Ford is making Android Auto and Apple CarPlay software support available to model-year 2016 vehicles equipped with SYNC 3. Customers with model-year 2016 Ford vehicles can update to the new SYNC 3 version 2.2 by downloading to a USB drive, visiting a dealership or automatically through a Wi-Fi connection.

“Our SYNC 3 software platform was designed to be easy to update so we can get our customers the latest and greatest features, functionally and security enhancements,” said Don Butler, executive director, Ford Connected Vehicle and Services. “With over-the-air updates, we can deliver new features to customers in the background while they continue using their vehicles.”

Customers can update their software by visiting owner.ford.com to download and install with a USB drive, or by visiting a dealership. Customers with Wi-Fi-enabled vehicles and a Wi-Fi network can set up their vehicle to receive the update automatically.

Android Auto
Compatible with Android™ devices 5.0 and higher, Android Auto brings the Android experience into the vehicle safely and easily with Google Maps, Google Play Music, phone, messaging and third party apps projected on the car's built-in display and available via voice controls. With a simplified interface, large touch targets, Google voice search and easy-to-use voice controls, Android Auto is designed to minimize distraction while on the road.

Apple CarPlay
Compatible with iPhone 5 and later models running iOS 7.1 or higher, Apple CarPlay gives iPhone users an intuitive way to make phone calls, use voice-guided navigation, listen to music, and send and receive messages while staying focused on the road. Users can control Apple CarPlay through the in-vehicle display or via Siri voice control. Apple CarPlay support requires a USB hub upgrade available through Ford dealers.

SYNC 3 currently supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay on all model-year 2017 Ford cars including the Fiesta, Focus, Fusion and Mustang, SUVs including the Escape, Explorer and Expedition, F-Series trucks and Ford’s electrified vehicles.

Receiving updates over Wi-Fi
Though Ford has been issuing SYNC upgrades since 2009, this is the first time the company is offering an update via Wi-Fi. In Wi-Fi-enabled vehicles with Automatic System Updates turned on within SYNC 3, the system will periodically connect to a customer’s designated Wi-Fi network to check for updates. If an update is available, the system automatically downloads the update in the background over a period of time without any customer interaction. And SYNC 3 is designed to perform the update as long as Wi-Fi is connected prior to the vehicle turning off, therefore there is no need to keep the vehicle running for the update to take place.

2018 Ford Expedition: Bigger, Aluminumier, EcoBoostier

The Ford Expedition has been around since the late 1990s, and despite an overhaul for 2003, the company itself characterizes this all-new model as only the second generation of its biggest SUV. No matter how you count the versions, the Expedition’s revamp is long overdue, and it brings wholesale changes that are significant.

Like its pickup sibling, the Ford F-150, the 2018 Expedition has switched to an aluminum-intensive architecture for weight reduction. With its aluminum body panels attached to a redesigned steel frame, the new vehicle is said to be up to 300 pounds lighter than the outgoing model. And yet the Expedition is bigger—the 2018 short-wheelbase version is four inches longer than before, while the extended-wheelbase Expedition L is one inch longer than the previous model.

2015 Ford Edge Sport

BRIGHTON, Mich. - Brace yourselves, another show-stopping vehicle is going to be hitting showrooms this spring and is prepared to take power and performance to a whole other level. Make way for the completely re-engineered, SAE-certified, 2015 Ford Edge Sport. Ford has confidently identified the utility vehicle as the most powerful Edge ever as it boasts incredible ratings of 315 horsepower and 350 lb.ft- of torque. 

As we mentioned, the 2015 Ford Edge Sport has been completely re-designed to give Ford customers a sporty utility vehicle that will provide an abundance of power and content. In order to make this possible, Ford engineers knew that the new Edge would need to be equipped with the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 to give it that 10 percent increase in horsepower and 25 percent increase in torque. Along with the addition of the EcoBoost engine, Ford majorly upgraded the Edge's suspension to offer the driver more control, sharper steering, and more confidence while out on the road. 

With such an enhanced performance level, it was only right for Ford to give the Edge's interior and exterior a facelift as well. Ford Motor Company's Forecast for 2014

BRIGHTON, Mich - Ford Motor Company is more than ready for the new year! The company's president of the Americas, Joe Hinrichs, has announced a very positive Ford Motor Company forecast for year 2014. The plan is to hire 5,000 people in the United States including 3,300 white-collar staff, such as engineers as well as 6,000 people in Asia.

Since 2000, this will be the largest amount of people that Ford has hired in a single year. A fair amount of the new hires will work at the 2 newest plants that are set to open up in China. Ford says that 2014 will be the company's busiest production year in its history that spans more than a century! With 23 vehicles being introduced across the globe, 16 vehicles will go on sale int he United States including the Transit Connect van, a new Mustang sports car, and the Lincoln MKC small utility.

Along with the hiring of new employees, Ford Motor Company is working on innovation. With the unveiling of the automated-search vehicle, all eyes are on Ford to continue to make vehicles that are a notch above the rest. Ultimately, they want technology to help make the world a safer place while also sustaining the environment.

With Ford Motor Company's bright forecast for the year 2014, we can only expect to continue to see exceptional vehicles from Ford. The new year is just a few weeks away, what will be the first to happen as we ring in the first of the year? We will have to wait and see!

Leaked 2015 Ford Edge Image

BRIGHTON, Mich.- Some unexpected Ford vehicle news has made headlines after a member of the Blue Oval Forums discovered an unfamiliar image! In a Powerpoint presentation by Ford Motor Company for the Deutsche Bank Global Auto Industry Conference, an image of what looks to be a next generation Ford Edge has been either accidentally or purposely included in the presentation. Although the presentation occurred last month, the Leaked 2015 Ford Edge Image was not discovered until this week!

It's hard to see much since the image of the suspected 2015 Ford Edge is very small, but we can distinguish the significant changes to the vehicle's front and body style. The headlight shape appears to remain similar to the current 2013 Edge, but we see influence from the 2013 Ford Fusion in the fog light bezels and grille. We don't know if the image was placed in the presentation on purpose or on accident but the Leaked 2015 Ford Edge Image reveals that the crossover looks to be completely redesigned!
