New Stability Control Technology to be Featured on Focus RS

BRIGHTON, Mich. - The third-generation Ford Focus RS will soon be available in markets all around the world, including the United States, and will quickly set a new benchmark for Ford Performance vehicles. The Focus RS features some the latest in performance technology and innovative engineering, offering consumers an enhanced experience out on the road and on the track.

There is an impressive addition to the new Focus that will actually be able to predict the future. Well, predict future spinouts that is. The new stability control technology that will be featured on the Focus RS can determine when a car meets conditions that may lead to a spin and then take the proper precautions to prevent the driver from losing control. The enhanced transitional stability technology will be a standard on the new Ford Focus RS, combining real-time data from sensors placed throughout the car that will anticipate possible spinouts by 100 to 200 milliseconds.

This is how it works: the technology recognizes the vehicle's speed, the steering wheel position, and the turn rate of the steering wheel and will determine if a skid or spinout is imminent. If the vehicle detects a risk, the brakes will be applied to the individual wheels to help the driver keep control of the vehicle and remain on the road. Since the new stability control technology featured on the Focus RS will be able to recognize situations that can lead to the driver losing control before it happens, the driver will experience a quicker, smoother, and more controlled "recovery process".

What Can We Expect from the All-New 2016 Ford Focus RS?

BRIGHTON, Mich. - The 2015 North American International Auto Show is nearly here, which means it is time we mentally prepare ourselves for all of the mind-blowing innovations that Ford Motor Company has in store for us. Ford Focus' Lead as Best-Selling Vehicle Grows to Double-Digits

BRIGHTON, Mich - Ford has had an incredible 2013 and is continuing to carry the success into 2014. The Ford Focus' Lead as Best-Selling Vehicle has Grown to Double-Digits. Global registrations have increased more than 16 percent year-over-year, improving its lead over competitors by 75,000.

Based on Ford's analysis of the latest Polk global vehicle registration data, the Ford Focus is the best-selling nameplate in the world. With strong growth in China, the Focus global registration from January until September of 2013 grew to 856,587. This is a 16.1 percent year-over-year increase. China happened to be the largest contributor to Ford's success with 303,481 registrations; an 85 percent year-over-year increase.

The stylish design and exceptional level of equipment are two key reasons for the customer's purchase. In China, the different components that make vehicle's exceed above one another are vehicle design, excellent safety and high quality. Each one of these components scored 15 to 40 percent higher among consumers than Ford's closest competitor.

As the Ford Focus' Lead as Best-Selling Vehicle Grows to Double-Digits, Ford now has two of the top five best-selling nameplates int he world. The Focus and Fiesta have a combined 1,402,555 vehicle registrations in the month of January through September 2013.

Ford Motor Company Debuts Escort Compact Concept Vehicle

BRIGHTON, Mich.- This weekend a classic was revived when Ford Motor Company debuted the Escort compact concept vehicle at the Shanghai Auto Show in China. Once the best selling car in the world, the Escort was also Ford's most popular vehicle name behind the F-series pickup. Ford wasn't convinced that the needs of the market were being met by the automaker's current offerings which is why they decided to bring back the popular nameplate with some modern updates.

The Ford Motor Company Escort Compact Concept Vehicle that debuted at the Shanghai Auto Show is based on the Ford Focus chassis, but stretched a little bit to incorporate a more spacious back seat. With the goal of being roomier and more affordable that the Focus, the Escort concept features a more upright roofline that gives the vehicle a stylish look without being arrogant. Importantly for the Chinese market, the jewel-like headlights on the new Ford Escort are inspired by the Chinese character for the number 8 which is considered lucky as a portent of wealth.

While the Ford Escort will be the automaker's third compact sedan, it works well in China since the country's wealth levels vary widely and compact cars make up 60% of the new vehicle market. However, the Ford Escort Compact Concept Vehicle is just that, a concept. While it isn't clear if the car will ever be built, it is close to a production model since it doesn't include exotic features. But, if the vehicle is produced it is unlikely that it will come to the United States since it was designed specifically for the Chinese market.

2012 Ford Focus ST

Every Ford Focus has AdvanceTrac ESC with ABS, yet one still marvels at the ability of the technology to continuously survey the driver’s responses and road conditions then apply the ABS brakes and adjust engine power, in order to keep all four wheels securely on the ground.

The EPAS’s Pull-Drift Compensation technology measures the steering input of the driver, compensates for steady crosswinds or uneven road surfaces and adjusts to the changing road conditions.

2013 Ford Focus ST Getting "Overboost" Feature

BRIGHTON, Mich. June 15, 2012 - By now most of you are probably aware that the upcoming 2013 Ford Focus ST is going to be fast - it is turbocharged after all - but Ford recently revealed a feature that takes the compact power even further. It's called "Overboost" and with the push of a button it will give speed-hungry Focus ST drivers a little extra kick.

The new Ford Focus ST sports a four-cylinder, direct-injected turbocharged engine and with the “overboost” feature drivers can extend the car's peak torque for up to 15 seconds at a time. The gains extend the peak torque from 3,000 rpm to 4,500 rpm. Other Ford EcoBoost vehicle would hit peak torque and start to drop off at these high speeds, but not the Focus ST!

To allow this sort of afterburner effect, Ford had to go out of their way to ensure the overclocked 2.0-liter EcoBoost had a very strong cooling system. 

“The turbo itself is specified for sustained, high-output performance, but they’ve programmed the car’s computer to dial in more boost past 3,000 rpm to give it that extra something,” says engineer Lisa Schoder, who is Marketing manager for Focus ST.

“We limit peak turbo boost to maintain a wide margin of safety and durability over the life of the car,” Schoder adds. “But overboost is cool in that it tweaks more acceleration through the turbo for brief periods for performance-hungry drivers.”

Here's a nice infographic Ford released that gives us a better look at how the new Overboost feature will work. As you can see the peak torque drops off much slower with the Overboost engaged, providing up to 7.4% more output from 3,000 rpm ro 4,500 rpm.

The 57 year old Louisville factory used to be the facility that brought us the Ford Explorer, but Ford recently converted the location into a automotive monster that can crank out as many as six different vehicles, including the highly-anticipated 2013 Ford Escape.

"Today marks a celebration of progress and transformation," said Mark Fields, Ford's president of the Americas. "Louisville Assembly Plant's reinvention illustrates how Ford is going further, continuing to invest in American manufacturing and new jobs while delivering even more of the fuel-efficient vehicles that give customers true power of choice."

Given the response and recent demand consumers have had for Ford vehicles this year, Ford has had to increase the amount of shifts at Louisville and other assembly plants. In fact, Louisville alone already added nearly 2,000 jobs for a second shift and plans to add a third, bringing in another 1,300 jobs. While these may not be jobs for us Michiganders, Ford has added more than 1,200 jobs to the Michigan Assembly Plant that makes the 2013 Ford Focus.

But let’s get back to Louisville. We’re really intrigued by how a single Assembly Plant can put out 6 different vehicles. So how do they do it? Apparently, it’s all in the tools. That’s right, Ford’s new reprogrammable tooling not only allows the factory to create six models, but it lets them assemble six different models at the same time, making it Ford’s most flexible U.S. assembly plant to date.

"Manufacturing flexibility is critical to staying competitive in today's global automotive marketplace," said Jim Tetreault, Ford vice president of North America Manufacturing. "Our ability to produce up to six vehicles from a single plant gives us a sizable advantage in quickly adjusting our products and volumes to match changes in customer preferences and market factors."

Latest 2013 Ford Focus ST Video Was Filmed By Fans!

BRIGHTON, Mich. June 7, 2012 - A few weeks ago Ford set out to create one of their most unique TV commercials ever. No, it's not in 3D and its not loaded with CGI effects. In fact, it just the opposite. The commercial, showing off the very cool 2013 Ford Focus ST, was shot entirely by Ford fans.

That's right, Ford Insiders were invited to line the streets of Florida's Key West and watch as Ford Racing's Tanner Foust and Greg Tracy screamed through a narrow street racing course to show us just what the Focus ST is all about. During the action fans and spectators were encouraged to have their smartphones and digital cameras ready to capture the action for the world to see, and that's exactly what they did. Apparently, the crowd of spectators expert video crew had upload stations on location so they could get their footage and add it to the library as soon as the cars moved on. Ford couldn't have done it without these dedicated fans and if you've watched the video yourself I think you'll agree that the final product turned pretty darn well.

The experience of watching a still unreleased car whooshing by at break-neck speeds in the middle of Key West had to be a great a experience, and those of you who were able to be a part of the first spectator-created Ford commercial should give yourself a pat on the back. As for the rest of us, I guess we'll just be here re-watching the videos, hoping we can make it next time.
