2013 Ford Focus Receives Highest Possible Safety Rating

2013 Ford Focus Receives Highest Possible Safety Rating
BRIGHTON, Mich. - The 2013 Ford Focus has received the highest possible safety rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The highest possible safety rating is the 'Top Safety Pick+' and was only awarded to 6 vehicles in the small car segment - the Ford Focus being one of them.

Ford is committed to designing vehicles that are both efficient and safe, allowing the driver and the vehicle's passengers to feel secure. Being awarded the Top Safety Pick+ validates that Ford is accomplishing what it set out to do. The Ford Focus is built with an ultra-high-strength steel structure that absorbs and redirects crash forces - this protects everyone in the vehicle by keeping the vehicle from folding in.

The 2013 Ford Focus received the highest possible safety rating, but only after having passed four evaluations. Vehicles must earn a "good" rating for occupant protection in moderate overlap frontal crash, side impact, rollover, and seats/head restraints. "Good" is the highest that a vehicle can score, while the lowest score is "poor". The Ford Focus was rated "good" in each of the four categories.

Ford Focus - Best Selling Car In The World

Ford Focus - Best Selling Car In The World

BRIGHTON, Mich.- The Ford Focus was the Best Selling Car in the world for 2012, beating out the Toyota Corolla based on data just issued by R.L. Polk data. The Ford Focus ranked as the best selling car in China and sales topped 1 million vehicles worldwide.

Ford has taken the Focus up a notch with the 2013 Ford Focus ST. The 2013 version is equipped with a 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine that provides 252 horsepower and 270 lb.-ft. of torque. The Ford Focus sports some of the best fuel economy in the world, with class-leading 32 mpg on the highway and 23 mpg in the city. There is even a 2013 Ford Focus with a special fuel economy package capable of achieving gas mileage all the way to 40 mpg on the highway.

The Ford Focus has also been updated for 2013 with more aggressive styling and a less boxy exterior. Critics think this makes for a more put-together look that is considered by many to be far sexier then previous models. The 2013 Ford Focus ST also has some serious technological integration features such as the Ford SYNC and MyFord Touch infotainment systems.

Ford EcoBoost Engines Reduce Emissions and Improve Fuel Efficiency

Ford EcoBoost Engines Reduce Emissions and Improve Fuel Efficiency
BRIGHTON, Mich.- According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 76% of Americans commute to work using their personal cars and trucks. Considering that these commuters are forced to brave an average commute of approximately 50 minutes roundtrip, selecting a vehicle is an important decision. Further, with the cost of gas stuck upwards of $3 a gallon, fuel-efficiency is becoming a more important consideration when picking out a new car. Ford EcoBoost Engines address the issue of rising gas costs while improving energy efficiency.

Ford’s EcoBoost gas-turbo direct-injection engine, winner of the 2012 “International Engine of the Year” for the 1.0 Liter version, provides up to 20 percent better fuel-economy, up to a 15 percent reduction in CO2 emissions, and offers improved engine performance over competitors. The basic principle of the EcoBoost is that it does more with less—fuel is directly injected into the combustion chamber and the exhaust excess that would otherwise be wasted is used to power a turbine. This results in a higher level of output, reduced emissions, and fewer trips to the pump.

The Ford EcoBoost Engine comes in three-cylinder, four-cylinder, and six-cylinder versions in a couple of different configurations. The three cylinder is a 1.0 liter version and the four comes in 1.6 and 2.0 liters. There is also a six-cylinder version that comes in a 3.5 liter configuration and is featured on the Ford-F150, which was named Motor Trend’s "Truck of the Year" for 2012. The EcoBoost is becoming popular with Ford F-150 customers as the turbocharged V6 creates 365 horsepower @ 5,000 rpm, 420 pound-feet of tourque @ 2500 rpm, and has a fuel-economy of 22 mpg on the highway. The EcoBoost Engine is an option on a variety of Ford vehicles. Learn more in the 2013 Ford Escape Brochure, 2013 Ford Fusion brochure, and the 2013 Ford Taurus Brochure.

Fashion FORD-ward

BRIGHTON, Mich.- When you think of automobiles, fashion is probably not the first thing that comes to mind.  However, Ford has changed the game by incorporating fashion into their vehicles in a way that most people might not recognize: through sustainable and global design convergence.  Sustainable fashion is a major trend emerging from the global initiative to “go green” meaning that when a product is created major consideration is taken in relation to the environmental and social impact it may have throughout the entire product lifecycle.

Did you know that the new Ford Focus Electric is composed of 100% sustainable materials! On top of that, Ford is the first automobile manufacturer to have achieved 35% recycled content in its interiors. To achieve this increased sustainability in their vehicles, Ford utilizes post-consumer recycled materials by converting recycled yarn into fabric for thinner lighter seats, upcycling nylon carpet into cyclinder head covers, and incorporating two pairs of recycled jeans into each car to absorb sound.

The auto manufacturer has also taken some inspiration from an iconic garment worn in Hispanic cultures called the guayabera, which features sustainable materials like natural linen while maintaining impeccable craftsmanship in the high quality stitching and pleating details.  Ford’s interior designer, Anthony Prozzi’s experience as a former fashion designer for Donna Karan is proving that Ford and fashion for hand in hand especially with the new 2013 Ford Fusion. “The thought that goes into designing a new vehicle is extensive and it’s very similar in many ways to the creative process fashion designers follow when they’re creating clothing,” says Prozzi.  Both the guayabera and Ford’s focus on high-end materials and attention to detail allow them to uphold their stylistic appeal and ability to turn heads on the street while reducing their impact on the environment, a prime example of today’s global design convergence.

Here at Brighton Ford we are always trying to look our best when we’re seen in our Ford. If you want to see what styles make us swoon head over to our Pinterest to check out our A Bit of Fashion board.

Latest 2013 Ford Focus ST Video Was Filmed By Fans!

BRIGHTON, Mich. June 7, 2012 - A few weeks ago Ford set out to create one of their most unique TV commercials ever. No, it's not in 3D and its not loaded with CGI effects. In fact, it just the opposite. The commercial, showing off the very cool 2013 Ford Focus ST, was shot entirely by Ford fans.

That's right, Ford Insiders were invited to line the streets of Florida's Key West and watch as Ford Racing's Tanner Foust and Greg Tracy screamed through a narrow street racing course to show us just what the Focus ST is all about. During the action fans and spectators were encouraged to have their smartphones and digital cameras ready to capture the action for the world to see, and that's exactly what they did. Check it out below!

Apparently, the crowd of spectators expert video crew had upload stations on location so they could get their footage and add it to the library as soon as the cars moved on. Ford couldn't have done it without these dedicated fans and if you've watched the video yourself I think you'll agree that the final product turned pretty darn well.

The experience of watching a still unreleased car whooshing by at break-neck speeds in the middle of Key West had to be a great a experience, and those of you who were able to be a part of the first spectator-created Ford commercial should give yourself a pat on the back. As for the rest of us, I guess we'll just be here re-watching the videos, hoping we can make it next time.

Ford Reveals 2013 Ford Focus ST Pricing and Specs!

Ford has finally revealed pricing info and specs on the the long-awaited 2013 Ford Focus ST and things are looking pretty good! Rolling in with a base price of $23,700 (excluding a $795 destination fee) Ford's new performance-minded hatchback will be more affordable than both the 2012 Mazdaspeed3 and 2012 Volkswagen GTI. Check out this recent report from the Chicago Tribune for all the details.

Mainly, what you're getting here is the tricked-out engine: a 252-horsepower, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that produces 270 pounds-feet of torque. Those figures are a big bump from the 247 hp and 250 pounds-feet of torque Ford stated previously. Compared to the traditional Focus, Ford also reworked the suspension by upgrading the shock absorbers and springs. The rear suspension has been revised with uprated knuckles and an all-new antiroll bar design. The electronic power-assisted steering also has a torque steer compensation program, which detects torque steer and counteracts it when necessary. Overall, the sport-tuned suspension offers less ground clearance but better cornering abilities, says Ford.

The Focus ST comes standard with 18-inch alloy wheels with summer tires, fog lamps, sport cloth seats, aluminum pedals and shifter, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, push-button start with passive keyless entry system, Ford Sync, an antitheft engine immobilizer and a perimeter alarm.

Two packages are available: Equipment Group — ST2 adds a 10-speaker Sony audio system, MyFord Touch with an 8-inch touch-screen, dual-zone automatic climate control, HD and satellite radio and Recaro-brand partial-leather seats for $2,385. The Equipment Group — ST3 builds off of ST2 and adds high-intensity-discharge headlights with articulating lenses and LED accent lighting, ambient interior lighting, a rear armrest, a navigation system and full-leather upholstery for $4,435.

The Tangerine Scream exterior color option (shown above) is exclusive to the Focus ST and costs $495.

Other stand-alone options include a power moonroof ($895) and a navigation system ($795 ST2 only).

A fully loaded Focus ST will cost you $29,525, which is a new high for a gasoline-powered Focus. Buyers who are interested in a Focus ST and preorder now will also receive a $299.99 GoPro HD Hero2 Motorsports Edition camera for free. This offer ends Aug. 20 or after the first 1,000 orders.

Increasing Oil Costs Have Ford Considering The Use of Shredded U.S. Currency To Make Car Parts!

Sustainability has become a high priority for automakers around the globe and Ford is no exception. For years they’ve been finding ways to include recyclable materials in the vehicles they produce and now they plan on taking things a step further by literally shredding money and using it to create car parts.

Don’t freak out, its really not as crazy as it sounds. Currently 8,000 to 10,000 pounds of retired paper currency (that’s a lot) are shredded everyday and all those Benjamins are usually just burned or thrown into landfills. Why not actually put them to use instead of creating more waste?

“Ford has a long history of developing green technologies because it’s the right thing to do from an environmental perspective,” said John Viera, Ford’s global director of Sustainability and Vehicle Environmental matters. “Now, finding alternative sources for materials is becoming imperative as petroleum prices continue to rise and traditional, less sustainable materials become more expensive.

“The potential to reuse some of the country’s paper currency once it has been taken out of circulation is a great example of the kind of research we are doing,” Viera added.

Using old paper money isn’t Ford’s first foray into sustainable materials. They save approximately 5 million pounds of petroleum annually through the use of soybean-based cushions in all of their North American vehicles, including the all-new 2013 Fusion. The 2013 Ford Escape is also on the green path with door bolsters partially made of kenaf (a tropical plant in the cotton family), which offsets the use of 300,000 pounds of oil-based resins.

Check out the infographic below for more on what Ford is doing to cut down on its use of petroleum-based products.
