2012 Ford Focus Electric – America’s Most Fuel-Efficient 5 Passenger Vehicle

With gas prices continuously rising we’re looking forward to seeing the 2012 Ford Focus Electric. The Focus Electric will become America’s most fuel-efficient five-passenger vehicle with a whopping 110 MPGe EPA rating. Although the Focus Electric will be available in California, New York, and New Jersey at first Ford plans to have the Focus Electric available in 19 markets across the U.S. by the end of 2012. Who knows, if the Focus Electric is a smashing success we could see it quickly spread to more markets. We wanted to share more information about the 2012 Focus Electric from an article from Media.Ford.com called,  “Ford Focus Electric Becomes America’s Most Fuel-Efficient Five-Passenger Vehicle with 110 MPGe EPA Rating.” Take a look:

  • U.S. Environmental Protection Agency certifies the 2012 Ford Focus Electric as America’s most fuel-efficient five-passenger vehicle with a 110 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe) city rating
  • Focus Electric achieves a combined rating of 105 MPGe, topping Nissan Leaf by 6 MPGe while also offering more motor power, passenger room and standard features
  • Customers can make more use of this efficiency with Ford’s faster charging technology that can recharge Focus Electric in about half the time of Nissan Leaf
  • Ford gives customers the power of choice with 10 fuel-efficiency leaders across segments and powertrain technologies

The 2012 Ford Focus Electric
DEARBORN, Mich., March 2, 2012 – Ford’s all-new Focus Electric is now officially America’s most fuel-efficient five-passenger car with a certified 110 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe) city rating and 99 MPGe on the highway.

Focus Electric also has been certified by the EPA to offer 105 MPGe combined, beating Nissan Leaf by 6 MPGe while offering more motor power and more standard features. Focus Electric’s 99 MPGe highway certification bests the 92 MPGe rating for the Leaf.

Focus Electric bests Nissan Leaf in other ways, too – more passenger room and a faster charging system that allows for a full recharge in nearly half the time of Nissan Leaf.

The Focus line soon will be joined by the new 2013 Ford Fusion – aiming to be America’s most fuel-efficient gas- and hybrid-powered midsize sedans – to help create one of the industry’s most fuel-efficient car lineups. The Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid is projected to become the world’s most fuel-efficient midsize sedan by achieving more than 100 MPGe in electric mode.

“Ford is giving customers the power of choice for leading fuel economy regardless of what type of vehicle or powertrain technology they choose,” said Eric Kuehn, chief nameplate engineer, Focus Electric. “The Focus and Fusion are great examples of how we transformed our fleet of cars, utilities and trucks with leading fuel efficiency.”

The interior will keep the elegant look Ford owners are used to and will include features like SYNC and MyFord touch
The EPA-approved Focus Electric label also certifies that the car has a range of 76 miles on a single charge compared with the 73-mile range of the Leaf. The Focus Electric can be driven up to 100 miles on a single charge depending on driving habits. The average driver drives 29 miles a day, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics website.

The approved label also will say customers could save $9,700 in fuel costs over the course of five years compared with the average new vehicle. Comparative savings could go even higher if the current trend of rising gas prices continues. In California alone, the cost for a gallon of gas rose 20 cents in a seven-day period that ended last week.

“We’ve been working for three years to make the Focus Electric America’s most fuel-efficient vehicle of its kind,” said Chuck Gray, Ford chief engineer of Global Core Engineering Hybrid and Electric Vehicles. “The entire group feels like a sports team that has just won a major championship. It’s a good feeling to be at this point now.”

Unlike competitors that have designed electric and hybrid vehicles from scratch, Focus Electric benefits from being based on the fuel version of Ford’s global C-segment car.

“Focus Electric shares many of the same premium components and features as its gasoline-powered counterpart while delivering distinct efficiencies and a uniquely exciting driving experience,” said Kuehn.

In addition to boosting quality, Ford’s strategic decision to electrify vehicle platforms – instead of creating one-off vehicles – allows the company to offer customers more choices as part of its fuel-efficient product lineup.

With 240-volt charging the 2012 Focus Electric can be recharged and ready to roll in half the time it takes to recharge the Nissan Leaf
Elec-tech
Focus Electric features an advanced charging system that allows the car’s battery to fully recharge in four hours – nearly half the time of Nissan Leaf – using available 240-volt outlets that can be installed in residential garages.

Faster charging with 240 volts also can extend range as drivers can more quickly recharge between stops – up to 20 miles per charge hour – so they can significantly improve a car’s range during a busy day of driving by recharging multiple times.

2012 Ford Focus Titanium Will Stick to Successful Formula

We found an interesting article from Ford in the News that we wanted to share. “Ford Focus Titanium Sticks to Successful Formula” provides readers with a review of the 2012 Ford Focus Titanium and all of the great features that are included. An interesting point of the article was that many customers actually wanted a manual transmission in the car instead of the six-speed PowerShift automatic transmission. Take a look:

Packed with premium content and offering a slew of impressive upgrades, the Ford Focus Titanium has become a notable success by offering customers exactly what they want in an upscale and efficient compact package. So when Ford found out that a significant number of customers actually wanted a manual transmission in the car, the company gave them that, too: After initially offering the Focus Titanium solely with its six-speed PowerShift automatic transmission, Ford soon will bring a five-speed manual gearbox into play.

Although the decision may seem counterintuitive at first, Ford says it’s a recognition of marketplace realities: Many Focus Titanium buyers are coming to the vehicle from upscale rivals that target enthusiasts by combining creature comforts with the kind of dynamic driving experience that’s only available with three pedals, and these shoppers expect the same from the Blue Oval. In meeting this customer demand, Ford will add a new dimension to the Focus Titanium’s already athletic demeanor, which features both a sport-tuned suspension—with standard rear stabilizer bar—and an available Titanium Handling Package that tightens things up even further.
A side-by-side look at both the hatchback and sedan 2012 Ford Focus Titanium
Of course, the Focus Titanium also will continue to offer technologies and luxuries like:
§  The latest generation of SYNC with MyFord Touch
§  A comprehensive Parking Technology Package with rearview camera, ultrasonic sensors and Active Park Assist—capable of helping automatically parallel park the Focus Titanium in as few as 24 seconds
§  Torque Vectoring Control, for improved cornering
§  Heated front seats and dual-zone climate controls
§  Ford’s Intelligent Access system with push-button start
§  Ambient lighting
§  A 10-speaker premium Sony sound system with a subwoofer and 355 watts of power
§  18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels
The five-speed manual transmission is slated to become available with the Ford Focus Titanium later this year.

Available Ford Features Review and Demonstrations on the 2012 Explorer

BRIGHTON, Mich. Feb. 24, 2012 - We have all seen the Ford commercials advertising all of these crazy technological features. If you’re like most you wonder what these features actually do, if they really work, or if you really need them. We wanted to clear up any mysteries and show you first hand some of the awesome features in action right here in Brighton, not in a commercial on a closed course. To demonstrate these features we took the 2012 Explorer out around busy downtown Brighton.

MyFord Touch With SYNC is an excellent co-pilot
Every great journey starts at the beginning, and in this case, with the push start feature. Apply pressure to the brake and press the ignition button and just like that, your Ford fires right up. AV plugins and USB plugins allow you to connect media devices to your Ford so you can take your entertainment on the road with you to play through your MyFord Touch with SYNC. MyFord Touch and SYNC do much more than keep you entertained, it’s a virtual co-pilot that will help you navigate, make and take phone calls, and even can give you a vehicle health report for your Ford.

Taking your Ford on an adventure has never been easier with the Terrain Management System. Turn the dial to match the road conditions and you’ll have much better traction control for your off road expeditions and drives on the snowy and muddy Livingston County back roads. With full rear climate control, including head and feet directional settings and 110-volt outlet your back seat passengers can plug in portable DVD players, phone and game chargers, and much more so they can stay entertained while you stay focused on the road.

We have demonstrated these amazing features for you here in this video:

Another fantastic feature available on many Fords is the rear view camera, which displays what’s behind you on the MyFord Touch display. The guidelines show you an outline of that’s in between your tires, your distance away from objects, and a directional guideline that shows you exactly where your heading. The rear view camera preludes possibly the best feature on many new Fords, the Active Park Assist.

Just press the button and your Ford will parallel park itself, its that easy!
The Active Park Assist feature takes control and flawlessly parallel parks your Ford for you, perfect for parallel parking on the busy streets of downtown Brighton when you are going out to eat at Lou and Carl’s or Bagger Dave’s or to shop at Impulse. Here’s how it works: You press the Park Assist Button to engage the Park Assist mode. Your Ford then scans the right side of the road for a break between cars to locate a fitting parking spot. Once you’re asked to stop and put it in reverse and your Ford will take it from there, keep in mind you still control the speed and the shifting. Don’t be afraid, take your hands off the wheel (keep a foot on the brake) and watch in astonishment as your Ford seamlessly maneuvers the parking task many drivers fear more than anything. Park Assist is available on the 2012 and 2013 Explorer, 2012 Escape, 2012 Flex, and 2012 Focus.

Come into Brighton Ford for a test drive and experience these amazing features for yourself.

Groundhog's Day Trip in the 2012 Focus to the Howell Nature Center

HOWELL Mich., Feb. 2, 2012 – This morning for Groundhogs Day, we drove out to the Howell Nature Center in the new 2012 Ford Focus to see Woody, Michigan’s Official Groundhog, give her prediction to see if we would have spring soon or if we would be stuck with six more weeks of winter. The drive out was as equally as exciting as the anticipation for the spring prediction.

Parking was limited for the 2012 Focus as crowds of people gathered bright and early for Woody's Prediction
It was quite chilly out, but the heated seats of the Focus made the drive nice and warm and quite comfortable. The steering wheel had buttons galore allowing access to all of the MyFordTouch with SYNC features and with voice command it could all be done without ever taking my hands off the wheel or my eyes off the road. Just by calling out “Sirius,” the voice command would switch over to Sirius XM radio and then ask what channel or genre to play. All of the sharp LCD displays on the dash and console coupled with the cool blue ambient lighting really made driving the 2012 Focus feel like you were driving the car of tomorrow, today.

The Howell Nature Center was packed with a giant crowd of eager spectators, Woody fans, and reporters including Livingston County’s own 93.5 WHMI and Fox 2. The event began with the history of Woody and how she had been brought to the Howell Nature Center after her mother had been killed by a farmer. She has since found her way into the hearts of many that have visited the Nature Center since 1998. A costume contest was held for kids to come out and dress up in costumes or summer outfits in anticipation of spring and summer.

Last year, Punxsutawney Phil made an incorrect prediction getting our hopes up, while Woody correctly predicted six more weeks of winter. Director Dana DeBenham noted, “What would a Pennsylvania groundhog know about our crazy Michigan weather?” As 8:15 approached, you could tell the anticipation in the crowd peaked.

Then it was finally time for the moment of truth. Is spring just around the corner or are we stuck with six more weeks of winter? Woody’s door opened and out she came. The crowd excitedly counting to thirty, if Woody stayed out for this time spring would be here soon. With just a few seconds left on the countdown it looked like Woody was going to head back inside, but stopped short of the door and turned around to tell us that spring is just around the corner! Visit the Brighton Ford YouTube Channel to see the Woody coming out and making her prediction.

As we drove back to Brighton Ford, the 2012 Focus provided an incredibly smooth ride and blocked out virtually all of the noise of the road and passing cars, leaving us with no distractions from driving and happy thoughts of warm weather and sunshine.
