Pumpkin Carving Ideas

BRIGHTON, Mich. - It's that time of year again where houses are decorated in orange and black, and various pumpkins are set on every available flat surface. To help you decorate for Halloween, we've put together a few pumpkin carving ideas to inspire you in your decorating!

1.  Cookie Cutter Pumpkins! This is a great idea if you have a great selection of cookie cutters laying around your kitchen. All you need to do is place the cookie cutter on your hallowed-out pumpkin and gently hammer it through. Using cookie cutters is also a great way for kids to get in on the pumpkin carving action without using a sharp object.

2. A Witchy Pumpkin! Why limit yourself to just carving? Pull out the glitter, glue, and ribbons! This witch's leg is cute and perfect for those looking to decorate as opposed to scare. You could always add a red glitter shoe and give it that Wizard of Oz touch!

3. The Spooky Pumpkin! This pumpkin carving idea is a little more complex, and a whole lot more spooky!  Taking two different size pumpkins, you can give the illusion of a face cracking to reveal a skull underneath - definitely scary!

4. The 'Holey' Pumpkin! If you're looking to be a little more unique with your pumpkin carving, why not take a drill and make a polka dotted creation? This pumpkin will look great both inside and outside - especially in the dark!

Since you'll be spending quite a bit of time with your pumpkin creations, we recommend dipping it in a large container of bleach and water (use a 1 tsp:1 gal mix) to help your pumpkin last as long as possible! The bleach will kill all the bacteria and help your pumpkin stay fresh longer.
