BRIGHTON Mich., June 29, 2012 – This Fourth of July will be
a wonderful time to relax, spend time with family and set off the now legal
fireworks that everyone has been itching to buy. The previously illegal aerial spinners, roman candles, bottle
rockets, firecrackers and more are now 100% legal as long as you follow the State
of Michigan’s guidelines and the ordinances put forth by your own city as
well. Here are some general regulations
that you should be aware of:
-People under the age of 18 may
not use aerial fireworks
-They must be 30 feet from any residential
building, garage or open flame when lit
- Fireworks may only be set off
on the day before, the day after and the day of a holiday
-City noise ordinances pertaining
to fireworks will not be in effect within the holiday timeframes.
According to the Daily Press & Argus, Brighton is
currently evaluating its regulations on fireworks in the hopes that we can
prevent noise pollution issues as well as promote safety in our community. There are many injuries that are linked
to fireworks, so here are a few tips from the American Pyrotechnics Association on
how to stay safe this Wednesday:
-Keep water near by in case the
fireworks get out of hand
-When lighting them wear
protective lenses
-Only have one firework lit at
once and do not combine them
-Do not re-light them
-Do not place them in glass or
metal containers when shooting them off
and last but not least, read the
instructions on the label!
Have a safe and fun holiday!
