Ford Begins Training for Upcoming F-150 Production
BRIGHTON, Mich. - A few weeks ago, Ford Motor Company made a public announcement that they would be adding a total of 1,550 jobs to meet the high demand for the all-new 2015 F-150. During the month of January, the 2015 F-150 averaged a turnover rate of 12 days from the day it arrived on dealership lots. After such a strong month of sales, Ford knew it was time to get a jump start on production and add a new batch of employees to help manufacture the smartest, toughest, most capable F-150 to date.
Ford is beginning to train new employees for the upcoming F-150 production at the Kansas City Assembly Plant. It should come as no surprise that to be apart of the construction of a highly advanced vehicle you must undergo hours of intensive training. Ford has developed a production training program to incorporate all of the latest in advanced materials, including new forming and joining technologies that utilize a new operation system rather than a conventional welding technique. Ford employees will spend more than 400 hours participating in in-class and hands-on courses, covering anything from installing and configuring new equipment to constructing the F-150's electrical control system.
One of the most notable parts of Ford's training for the upcoming F-150 production is the "train the trainer" model. Once workers become experts on the new equipment, they will be expected to train other members of the crew that they work with on a regular basis. This ensures that every worker has a thorough understanding of the process and limitations of an assembly plant to successfully launch production. Kansas City Assembly will kick off production at the end of the first quarter of 2015. Together, Kansas City and the Dearborn Truck Plant will have the ability to produce more than 700,000 Ford F-150 trucks per year to be sold throughout the 90 different global markets.
