Need for Speed's "Hero Car" Headed to Barrett-Jackson Auction

BRIGHTON, Mich - The customized 2014 Ford Mustang GT "Hero Car" is Headed to the Barrett-Jackson Auction in West Pam Beach, Florida on April 12th. After its much anticipated role in the upcoming film "Need for Speed", the Mustang GT will be auctioned off to benefit the Henry Ford Health System. This non-profit group was founded by Henry Ford to improve the health and well-being of a deserve community. 

Ford built a custom-designed wide-bodied GT with Forgiato 22-inch wheels for "Need for Speed", which featured several amplified design elements. This particular model has a larger grille with new air intakes, extended rocker panels, a twin-snorkel hood and low-profile mirrors. A custom silver paint job with Kona Blue racing stripes is the perfect final touch. This paint job keeps the Mustang looking fast even when it is sitting in park. 

The Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach Auction will be a night to remember, providing more entertainment than just the auction of the 2014 Mustang GT. Attendees will also see the all-new 2015 Ford Mustang and 2015 Ford F-150 on display in South Florida for the first time! Ford will be treating the guests to a ride-and-drive experience at the event. About the Latest "Need for Speed" and Ford Mustang Ad

BRIGHTON, Mich - This past Sunday, the latest "Need for Speed" and Ford Mustang Ad debuted during the Daytona 500. The co-branded commercial brought two anticipated events into one and will be broadcasted this up-coming weekend for the world to see on television and in movie theaters.

The ad features scenes from the upcoming "Need for Speed" film, hitting theaters on March 14th, where main character Toby Marshall tries to get his life back on track. Toby Marshall is portrayed by Emmy-award winning actor, Aaron Paul, who drives across the country to avenge the death of his friend and redeem himself after a troubled life. The scenes of the ad are accompanied by a voiceover that begins to pave out the plot of the film. 

The ad closes with two clever lines "Do you really think that if you've been set up, accused and convicted, a new car can put it all behind you? Depends on the car!". The end of the ad also marked the official launch of the #InaMustang campaign. This social media campaign invites fans everywhere to share their stories of where they would, could, or want to go "In a Mustang". Fans are encouraged to visit http://ford.com/inamustang and submit their stories, photos, and videos. Ford along with partnered influential content creators with social and film networks are then looking to bring the fan's stories to life.

Fuel Economy Myth Busters!

BRIGHTON, Mich - With gas prices trickling down and then shooting back up, people are always looking for ways to save money at the pump! Technology has allowed many fuel efficient fuels to be produced, however, we still have to spend a decent chunk of change on fuel. Myth 1: Wake up at the crack of dawn it fill up. 
Fact: Regardless if you're an early riser or a night owl, the time of day at which you fill up your tank is irrelevant. It has been said that filling up when it is cold in the morning gets you more gas. Wrong. Your car is designed to keep the gas tank at a constant temperature, so there is no change in gas volume no matter what time of day!

Myth 2: Paying more to save gas.
Fact: Many people believe that paying for a premium grade of gas will provide better gas mileage and a better performance. This is not true. Each vehicle is designed for a specific grade of gas. If you are putting a premium grade into a vehicle that is not a luxury or sport model with a high-performance engine, you are simply wasting your money. If you are unsure about which grade to use, your owner's manual will provide the recommended (or some are required) type of fuel.

Myth 3: Driving with your windows down lowers gas mileage.
Fact: Depending on the type of vehicle you are driving, results of gas milage will vary. According to researchers at Edmunds.com, a pickup truck got almost 10% better gas mileage with the windows rolled down. On the other hand, Consumer Reports revealed that running the air conditioning while driving at 65mph can reduce fuel mileage by about 1 mpg or more. There are various answers to this question, but if you want to improve your gas mileage the answer is simple: drive slower. 

Myth 4: Independent or non-chain gas stations have lower-quality fuel.
Fact: Local gas stations typically purchase their fuel from big name brand oil companies. Don't worry about filling up at your local gas station, you will have the same fuel economy regardless!

The Pioneer of Global Truck Leadership Celebrates 80th Anniversary

BRIGHTON, Mich - Ford is recognizing the Pioneer of Global Truck Leadership and Celebrates the 80th Anniversary of the iconic Ute. The Australian invention of the Ute led to the development of several popular vehicles that we enjoy today like the F-Series and Ranger. The concept had been released around the world, impacting designers by other manufacturers and gaining many fans from around the globe over the years.

The birth of the Ute came from a letter. This letter was written to managing director of Ford Motor Company Australia, Hubert French. A farmer's wife wrote him, explaining that they could not afford two vehicles, but needed some type of automobile they could drive to church as well as use for farming necessities. French then took the letter to a young designer, Lewis Brandt. Brandt developed the Ford utility as a coupe with an integrated steel-paneled load carrying area at the rear of the vehicle. He blended the "pickup" sides with a coupe body, making for a cleaner profile and a larger loading area behind the cabin. The perfect vehicle for carrying cargo and driving into town.

Over a few years, the Ford coupe-utility took on a few adjustments. Quickly it became the "must have" vehicle for rural communities. About 22,000 were sold between 1950 and 1954. Lewis Bandt's design made a huge impact on the Australian auto industry.The original design by Bandt eventually paved the road for what now has become some of the world's most popular vehicles - the Pickup or utility.
