9 Great Grilling Tips

11 Great Grilling Tips
BRIGHTON, Mich. - The summer and its holidays are upon us, which means it's time to fire up your grill. One of the best things about summer is being able to grill out with family and friends, that's why we've come up with 9 great grilling tips for you to get the most out of your BBQ.

1. Preheat your grill 15-25 minutes before you start cooking. Much like the oven inside, your grill cooks best when it's properly heated. If your grill has had time to warm up, it will properly sear your food on contact, keep the insides moist, and also keep your food from sticking.

2. Clean your grill when it's hot. Food leftovers and debris comes off a lot easier when the grill is hot, so use a grill brush to clean your grill rack after it's pre-heated, but before you slap your food on.

3. Use the hand test to check if your grill has reached temperature. Place your hand about five inches above the grill rack; it's at high temperature if you have to move your hand after 2 seconds, medium temp. if you move your hand after 5 and low temp if you move your hand in 10 seconds.

4. Oil your grill up to prevent sticking. Using tongs and an oil-soaked paper towel, rub your grill rack down. This will keep your food from sticking and give you a nice looking sear. DO NOT however use cooking spray on a hot grill.

9 Great Grilling Tips5. Avoid cross-contamination. While it might be obvious to use separate cutting boards, knives, etc. when dealing with raw meat, many don't pay attention to their marinade. Make sure to prepare a little extra marinade to use on your food when it's cooking, and don't use the marinade that was used on the raw meat. It's important to remember to never baste with the marinating liquid, as it's easy to cross-contaminate this way.

6. Speaking of marinating, marinate your meat! It infuses your food with great flavor, ensuring that your guests will love it. For steak, we recommend using a mixture of soy sauce, olive oil, lemon juice, worcestershire sauce and various herbs.

7. Check the temperature of your meat. This makes it super easy to know if your meat is done, or if it needs to cook a little longer! Your guests will be so impressed with your food knowledge after you whip out an internal temperature gauge.

9 Great Grilling Tips8. A grill basket/rack is perfect for veggies, fish, etc. Unless you're making kabobs like the above picture, a grill basket will keep your veggies from falling through the racks. Not to mention, it'll cook them to perfection and you can serve them right out of the basket.

9. Let your food rest - especially the meat. Not only does this give your food time to cool down so it doesn't burn you, it also allows the juices in your meat to redistribute giving it a great taste.

Whether you're a grilling master or an excited beginner, these 9 great grilling tips will make you look like a professional to your family and friends.

Ford F-150 Tops Toyota as Most American Vehicle

Ford F-150 Tops Toyota as Most American Vehicle
BRIGHTON, Mich. - The Ford F-150 has officially topped the Toyota Camry as the most American Vehicle in the Cars.com annual "American Made Index". This award comes shortly after the Ford F-150 dominated the 2013 Light-Duty Pickup Challenge, as well as its continued success as being the best-selling truck for 37 years. With so many accomplishments under it's bumper, the Ford F-150 is taking the country by storm.

The Ford F-150 topped the Toyota as the most American vehicle for a number of reasons. The American Made Index, created by Cars.com, used various factors to determine the 'American-ness' of each vehicle.  Specifically, they determined where the car and its parts were built, and then how many of them were sold. Over 75% of the F-150 is manufactured in the United States; the two F-150 factories produce in Dearborn, Michigan and Claycomo, Missouri.

As for the number of vehicles sold, the Ford F-150 has done exceptionally well this year. Ford Motor Company will even be adding 2,000 workers at the F-150 factory in Missouri to continue to produce to meet the demand.

Ford Sells 33,000,000th F-Series Pickup
BRIGHTON, Mich. - Sam Loria, a 76-year old man from Princeton, Texas was in for a surprise when he purchased his 2013 F-150 Platinum truck last week, as the truck is now just as impressive to Ford Motor Company as it is to its new owner. Ford has sold it's 33,000,000th F-Series pickup and Loria is its buyer.

Having bought a Ford F-150 from the same dealership back in 1969, Loria admits this purchase was a little more impressive. Having owned 12 Ford vehicles in his life, he was shocked to discover that he now owned the 33,000,000th F-Series pickup truck that Ford has sold. A longtime Ford customer, and a true Ford fan, he is pleased to own a little piece of Ford history.

The Ford F-Series is the best-selling truck in America, and has been for the past 36 years. It is also the brand with the most trucks on the road with over 250,000 miles, and was recently chosen as the 'Best Light-Duty Pickup Truck' by PickupTrucks.com an Popular Mechanics Magazine. Ford Tests Electronic Brake Light That Warns Drivers From Afar

Ford Tests Electronic Brake Light That Warns Drivers From Afar
BRIGHTON, Mich. - Ford Motor Company has recently been testing a high-tech brake light that would warn drivers from afar. This early warning brake light would be able to alert drivers from around a bend, or even behind other vehicles.

While it is still in the beginning stages, ideally this braking system would transmit a wireless signal to illuminate a light in the dashboard of the cars nearby. By illuminating this light, drivers would be aware of braking cars in front of their vehicle, or around a corner. This would be especially useful in busy highway situations, as people have the tendency to slam on their brakes without warning; this often causes collisions. This braking system would give drivers one more tool to avoid an accident.

This "Electronic Brake Light" that warns drivers from afar is only one of the 20 systems that Ford is testing for Safe Intelligent Mobility. These systems would all work to intelligently communicate car-to-car and help improve safety on the roads. Currently the Electronic Brake Light is being tested in 120 vehicles in Frankfurt, Germany. However, if the testing is successful, we should see this safety system integrated into Ford vehicles within the next couple years.

Ford is constantly evolving to make sure that your ride is as safe and enjoyable as possible. If you'd like to see what safety features are currently available in our vehicles, stop by your South Lyon Area Ford Dealership and check out our large selection of Ford Cars For Sale or New Ford Trucks.

Model T's Birthplace Still Alive 110 Years After Ford Motor Co. was Founded

Model T's Birthplace Still Alive 110 Years After Ford Motor Co. was Founded
BRIGHTON, Mich. - As Ford Motor Company celebrates its 110 year anniversary this week, many are taking the time to trace through history and see how far Ford has come. If one were to follow the roots all the way back to Ford's humble beginnings, they would find the Ford Piquette Plant, the birthplace of the Model T.

110 years after Ford Motor Company was founded, the Model T's birthplace is still alive and well. When the plant first opened in 1904, it had over 67,000 square feet of space and was fairly close to the Milwaukee Junction rail terminal.  Being that close in proximity to the railways allowed for the plant to acquire the materials needed for production quickly.
Model T's Birthplace Still Alive 110 Years After Ford Motor Co. was Founded

After four years of experimenting with different models, the Ford Piquette plant landed on the Model T in 1908.  When the Model T began to be produced, it took workers about 12 hours to complete a vehicle.  With the amount of employees in the 67,000 square feet of space, and the time it took to finish a car, this plant was able to produce only 100 Model T's daily.  However, as the demand for vehicles went up and the industry quickly expanded, Henry Ford implemented the assembly line into his process. With the assembly line, the plant could easily produce a new car every 12 minutes! This increased production allowed the plant to produce over 15 million Model T's until 1927 when the last vehicle rolled off the assembly line.
Model T's Birthplace Still Alive 110 Years After Ford Motor Co. was Founded

While the Ford Piquette Plant is retired from producing vehicles, it still remains alive after 110 years as a museum and National Historic Landmark for all that took place within its walls. The building has been restored to the state it was in when the plant was being used to produce the vehicles and is open for the public's curious gaze.

While we might not have a Model T on our lot, we certainly have a large selection of cars for you at our South Lyon Used Car Dealership. 2013 Ford F-150 Wins Pickup Challenge

2013 Ford F-150 Wins Pickup Challenge
BRIGHTON, Mich. - The 2013 Ford F-150 has won Pickuptrucks.com and Popular Mechanic's 2013 Light-Duty Challenge! Going grill to grill with the 2013 Ram 1500, and two General Motors 2014 trucks, the Ford F-150 proved itself to be the leader of the pack.

The 2013 Ford F-150 may have won the pickup challenge, but not before having to prove itself against various truck brands. The competing trucks' were tested vigorously, with challenges including 0-60 mph acceleration, braking, overall handling, towing, fuel economy, and overall look. These performance-oriented competitive events pushed each vehicle to the limit, and still the Ford half-ton dominated.

The next challenge on the road for these trucks is the Truck of Texas award, where members of the Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA) will test drive each vehicle and award the best ride. This award is always sought after by pickup truck manufacturers, since 1 in every 5 pickup trucks sold in the U.S. are sold in Texas and earning the Truck of Texas award almost guarantees the winning manufacturer a large amount of sales.

The 2013 Ford F-150 is best-in-class with the available 6.2L 2-valve V8 with 411 horsepower! To read more about what this winning vehicle has in store for you, check out our 2013 Ford F-150 BrochureYou can also stop in at our South Lyon Area Ford Dealer to test drive the F-150, or come check out our Used Car Dealership to see what else we have to offer!

Robotic Cars Take the Punch for Ford Test Drivers

Robotic Cars Take the Punch for Ford Test Drivers
BRIGHTON, Mich. - Engineers at Ford's Michigan Proving Grounds have come up with the auto industry's first robotic test system, which drives trucks and vans across obstacles that put a decade of wear on a vehicle in ten minutes. With such destructive obstacle courses, robotic cars are now taking the punch for Ford Test Drivers.

With robotics cars now taking the punch for Ford Test Drivers, this allows the  researchers to put the vehicles through even more tortuous testing. The obstacles that the vehicle encounters try to destroy the vehicle, with the intention of shaking the vehicle to pieces. Test cars will encounter a variety of difficult obstacles, such as driving over cement blocks, rough gravel, mud pits, and giant speed bumps.

According to Ford, all of it's vehicles are required to complete these intense durability tests before they are deemed fit to be sold. In the past, it would take longer for the vehicles to complete the obstacle course because it was potentially dangerous for the test drivers to be on the course for long periods of time. Some of the obstacles that are designed to shake the vehicle to pieces are considered to be dangerous to the driver if experienced more than one day.

By replacing the driver with a robot, Ford can submit these vehicles to the most intense, dangerous driving conditions - all without risking the drivers safety. This accelerates the durability testing, allowing Ford to create more durable and safer cars at a quicker pace.

At Ford, they work hard to make sure your Ford vehicle will run efficiently, and safely, for as long as possible. So stop in today at our Pinckney Area Ford Dealer location where we can show you our selection of Ford Cars For Sale. Not in the market for a new car? We can assist you with Used Car Loans to get you in one of our many great Certified Preowned Cars For Sale.
