Ford Launches Largest Salaried Hiring Initiative in More Than a Decade

Ford Launches Largest Salaried Hiring Initiative in More Than a Decade
BRIGHTON, Mich. -  Ford has just announced plans to launch the largest salaried hiring initiative in more than a decade, by bringing on 3,000 new employees. Consumer demand has increased drastically this year, as Ford products are selling quickly at dealerships across the country. With this increased demand, Ford is in need of more employees to keep up.

The key areas that will be hiring are product development, engineering, IT, and quality manufacturing. The company says they have already hired 1,500 new employees, and are looking to hire another 1,500. The best part about Ford creating so many news jobs is that 85-90% of these positions are in Michigan!

Ford Motor Company has been in the news quite a bit, and mentioned on our blog frequently, as it is seeing a huge increase in sales this year. With so many honors and awards being bestowed on Ford vehicles - specifically the Ford F-150 being named the Most American vehicle - many consumers are turning to the brand as their number one choice when choosing a new vehicle. With this continual increase in demand, Ford has vowed to create 12,000 hourly jobs in the U.S. by 2015.

7 Tips to Stay Safe in the Heat

7 Tips to Stay Safe in the Heat
BRIGHTON, Mich. - Summer is in full swing and that means that temperatures are on the rise. When the heat gets to be unbearable, it's important to know how to keep your body cool. High temperatures can have disastrous effects on a body - this is especially true for children and seniors. So to keep you and your family safe this summer, here are 7 tips to stay safe in the heat!

1. Do NOT leave children or pets in the car. Even with the windows down, the temperature in your car can hit triple digits in a matter of minutes. Children and animals are more susceptible to heat stress and can suffer heat stroke when the temperatures are high. So even if you are only going inside for a minute, take your child with you and leave your pets at home.

2. Use your air conditioning! Air-conditioning is the number one protective factor against heat-related illness and death. If you refrain from using it because you are concerned about your fuel efficiency, rest assured that it actually does not affect your gas mileage that much. In some studies, it's only been proven to reduce a vehicle's fuel economy by less than 1 mile per gallon. So use your air and stay cool! If your air conditioning doesn't work, don't hesitate to stop in at Brighton Ford today and have one of our specialists take a look.

3. Drink lots of water. This may seem like an obvious tip, but many people aren't aware of how quickly you can become dehydrated in the summer. It is recommended that you drink 2-4 glasses of water an hour during extreme heat. This is especially true for children!

4. Park in the shade, if possible. Nothing is worse than opening your car door and feeling the oven-like heat radiating out at you. Parking in the shade will help with this. If you can't park in the shade, try starting your car and letting it sit before you get inside. This will allow your air conditioning to get going and cool down your car, ensuring that you're not sitting in a boiling vehicle.

5. Wear loose-fitting clothing, preferably of a light color. Darker colored clothes will absorb heat more quickly than lighter colors, so it's recommended to keep your wardrobe bright and light. Loose-fitting clothing will also keep you cool, as it allows air to circulate. If you're wearing skin tight jeans, you're probably not going to feel too good in the hot sun.

6. Get your errands done in the morning or at night. The day is hottest between the hours of 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. So if you make your plans for early in the morning or at night, you'll be able to stay cooler and avoid the dangers of being active in the hot sun.

7. Use common sense. If the heat is unbearable, you probably shouldn't go for a run through the park. When the day is too hot, plan indoor activities and try to stay in the air conditioning.

Hopefully these 7 tips to stay safe in the heat have helped you. It's important to be aware of how dangerous extreme heat can be and take the necessary precautions to be safe! If you are driving a vehicle that no longer has air conditioning, or perhaps you're in the market for a new one, stop by our Wixom Area Ford Dealership today and we'll help you out! 5 Features That Could Be On Your Future Car

5 Features That Could Be On Your Future Car
BRIGHTON, Mich. - Technology that makes your vehicle more safe and fuel efficient is sprouting up daily and changing the way the industry makes cars. Every day brings us closer to a car that could ultimately drive itself or not use any fuel. While there are certain features that haven't even been thought of yet, here are 5 features that could be on your future car.

Collision warning and automatic braking is the first feature that will most likely exist in future vehicles, as it prevents your car from colliding with objects around you. Whether it be a braking vehicle, standing pedestrian, or a tree, this system would alert you and either stop the vehicle, or slow it down. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the collision warning alone reduced crashed by 7 percent in vehicles that currently have the system installed - adding the automatic braking would only help decrease the amount of collisions on the road.

Automotive cameras are already appearing in vehicles, and are expected to be mandated by law before 2015. These cameras won't only be put in the rear to spot objects behind the vehicle, but will also be used to spot obstacles while turning; give the driver a bird's eye view of the surrounding area; or even be used to spot large animals!

Lane centering technology is another feature that could be on your future car. The Ford Fusion and Ford Explorer currently offer the lane centering technology, but it is expected to be automatically included with future vehicles. This system nudges drivers if they stray from their lane, by sounding a beep or vibrating the driver's seats.

The fourth feature that is expected to be on your future car is adaptive headlights. This feature would be extremely helpful for drivers, as it would allow lights to swivel as you turn and help you see around corners. These lights would also be able to sense if there are cars coming and automatically dim. Adaptive lights would make being blinded by oncoming traffic lights, a think of the past.

By 2025, it will be required that all vehicles sold in the U.S. will have to average 54.5 mpg of gasoline. In order to make this happen, most vehicles will have to have a stop-start device that shuts the engine off at stops and turns it back on when the brake is let go. This technology already exists in Europe, and in some hybrid vehicles in the U.S. However, it will have to be in all vehicles to get that kind of fuel efficiency.

These 5 features that could be on your future car are great resources to have for your driving experience. Not only will this make driving safer, it will also make riding in the vehicle more enjoyable. However, Ford currently has numerous features already installed in its vehicles that make the ride a great one. If you'd like to check out what Ford has to offer for you and your vehicle, stop by our Wixom Area Ford Dealership and let us help you into a New Ford Truck or one of our Ford Cars For Sale.

9 Great Grilling Tips

11 Great Grilling Tips
BRIGHTON, Mich. - The summer and its holidays are upon us, which means it's time to fire up your grill. One of the best things about summer is being able to grill out with family and friends, that's why we've come up with 9 great grilling tips for you to get the most out of your BBQ.

1. Preheat your grill 15-25 minutes before you start cooking. Much like the oven inside, your grill cooks best when it's properly heated. If your grill has had time to warm up, it will properly sear your food on contact, keep the insides moist, and also keep your food from sticking.

2. Clean your grill when it's hot. Food leftovers and debris comes off a lot easier when the grill is hot, so use a grill brush to clean your grill rack after it's pre-heated, but before you slap your food on.

3. Use the hand test to check if your grill has reached temperature. Place your hand about five inches above the grill rack; it's at high temperature if you have to move your hand after 2 seconds, medium temp. if you move your hand after 5 and low temp if you move your hand in 10 seconds.

4. Oil your grill up to prevent sticking. Using tongs and an oil-soaked paper towel, rub your grill rack down. This will keep your food from sticking and give you a nice looking sear. DO NOT however use cooking spray on a hot grill.

9 Great Grilling Tips5. Avoid cross-contamination. While it might be obvious to use separate cutting boards, knives, etc. when dealing with raw meat, many don't pay attention to their marinade. Make sure to prepare a little extra marinade to use on your food when it's cooking, and don't use the marinade that was used on the raw meat. It's important to remember to never baste with the marinating liquid, as it's easy to cross-contaminate this way.

6. Speaking of marinating, marinate your meat! It infuses your food with great flavor, ensuring that your guests will love it. For steak, we recommend using a mixture of soy sauce, olive oil, lemon juice, worcestershire sauce and various herbs.

7. Check the temperature of your meat. This makes it super easy to know if your meat is done, or if it needs to cook a little longer! Your guests will be so impressed with your food knowledge after you whip out an internal temperature gauge.

9 Great Grilling Tips8. A grill basket/rack is perfect for veggies, fish, etc. Unless you're making kabobs like the above picture, a grill basket will keep your veggies from falling through the racks. Not to mention, it'll cook them to perfection and you can serve them right out of the basket.

9. Let your food rest - especially the meat. Not only does this give your food time to cool down so it doesn't burn you, it also allows the juices in your meat to redistribute giving it a great taste.

Whether you're a grilling master or an excited beginner, these 9 great grilling tips will make you look like a professional to your family and friends.
