Tips For Driving In The Rain

BRIGHTON, Mich.- You know what they say, April showers bring May flowers. Well, April has come to an end but the rain has not, which can making driving more dangerous. Did you know that thousands of accidents each year are due to rainy conditions? Sp, check out our Tips For Driving In The Rain to stay safe this spring!

Tips For Driving In The Rain:
-The most obvious tip is to slow down when it's raining since the film of water on the road can cause tires to lose traction and rain can reduce your perception. Especially after a long dry spell, take it slow since the oil and grease build up can cause extremely slick roadways. And since you're driving slower, allow yourself more time so that you aren't rushing to your destination.

-In wet conditions, brake earlier and with less force than you normally would to allow a great stopping distance between you and the car in front of you. This will also give other drivers more time to react, preventing accidents. If you drive through a puddle, tap your brakes lightly to dry off some of the water on your rotors.

-Since you don't know what could be lurking beneath, try not to drive through puddles. Most roads are crowned, so if you stay towards the middle of the road you will avoid deep standing puddles near the shoulder. If there is a large puddle up ahead, drive around or turn around. You don't know how deep the puddle is or if there is a large pothole under the water, and if water splashes into your engine compartment you could damage the internal electrical system.

-If it's raining or the roads are wet, don't use your cruise control since it can actually cause your vehicle to accelerate if you hydroplane. If you do start to hydroplane, keep calm and release the gas pedal slowly while keeping the wheel straight. Avoid braking or turning the wheel which can cause you to lose control.

-Turn on your headlights and stay aware of your surroundings. Even if it is only sprinkling, it will help you to see the road better and will help other drivers see you better. If it's raining so hard that you can't see, it is best to pull over and wait it out to stay safe.

A thunderstorm can pop up out of no where during the warmer months, so keep these tips for driving in the rain in mind and always exercise caution when the roads start to get wet. New Ford eWheelDrive Fiesta Prototype

BRIGHTON, Mich.- It seems like every other day automakers are touting a new fuel efficient or electric car technology, but Ford Motor Company has gone above and beyond with their latest tech application. The new Ford eWheelDrive Fiesta prototype was designed in partnership with auto industry supplier Schaeffler and offers a new electric technology unheard of before! Ford Motor Company's new electric car technology propels the vehicle through electric motors located entirely within the wheels of the car. Therefore, the drive wheels don’t need to be connected to a common drivetrain, which creates endless possibilites for the vehicle.

One major advantage is all of the extra space, especially if a flat battery pack is installed along the floor of the car instead of under the hood like in the prototype. Passengers in the new eWheelDrive Fiesta will enjoy a roomier interior. In addition, the demo-vehicle is rear-wheel-drive, but the new technology makes it relatively simple to configure a front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive vehicle. However, the most impressive feature available with the new motors is the possibility for sideways parking! With a specially designed suspension, all four wheels have the ability to rotate almost 90 degrees since the drive wheels don’t have to be connected to a common drivetrain! Urban drivers would be able to slip into a parallel parking space perpendicularly!

As you probably guessed, the new Ford eWheelDrive Fiesta prototype is in the early development stages, but Ford Motor Company expects to build two more prototypes by 2015. 2014 Ford Fusion Gets Minor Updates

BRIGHTON, Mich.- The 2013 Ford Fusion made its debut about a year ago which means its just about time for a few updates for 2014. Ford Motor Company hasn't announced any major changes to come for the 2014 Fusion so we don't expect anything drastic. But in the car's second year on the market the 2014 Ford Fusion will receive minor updates to the third generation of the vehicle.

First, the 2014 Ford Fusion will receive a smaller turbocharged engine. The current 1.6-liter engine will be replaced by a new 1.5-liter EcoBoost turbocharged four-cylinder engine with start-stop functionality.  All automatic transmission EcoBoost Fusions will receive the 0.1-liter displacement while manual transmission models will continue to be equipped with the 1.6-liter engine.

But the 2014 Ford Fusion's most important update will be the addition of seatbelt airbags for the back seats. Rear seat belt air bags were first offered in the 2013 Ford Explorer to protect smaller passengers, and the Fusion will receive the added safety feature for 2014.

And those interested in the Titanium model of the 2014 Ford Fusion, will be able to enjoy the addition of both heated and cooled seats plus a heated steering wheel option. However, the additions of heated/cooled seats and a heated steering wheel will not be available until later in the model year.

The Ford Fusion was completely redesigned for 2013 and while this will be just the second year for the third generation of the vehicle the 2014 Ford Fusion will get minor updates before it hits the showroom. Ford Key Fob Window Trick

BRIGHTON, Mich.- The warmer months are approaching (at least we hope they are), and Ford's newest vehicles will help you enjoy those months to the fullest. If this summer is anything like last summer we know one thing, its going to be hot. But Ford's Key Fob Window Trick will help keep you cool when it heats up!

Hate getting into a hot vehicle in the summertime? You won't have to with Ford's Global Open key fob feature! This new feature allows you to roll the windows up or down, and even roll back the moon roof if you have one! All you have to do it press and hold the unlock button on your key fob for at least three seconds and then the windows will begin to roll down. To roll the windows up, just press and hold the lock button for at least two seconds. And if you're rolling the windows up or down and want to stop them half way, just press either the lock or unlock button on your key fob to make them stop.

Ford Motor Company's Global Open key fob feature will work up to 150 feet away, so you can cool off the car before you get in on a hot summer day. Now we just need that warm weather to stick around! Ford Motor Company Debuts Escort Compact Concept Vehicle

BRIGHTON, Mich.- This weekend a classic was revived when Ford Motor Company debuted the Escort compact concept vehicle at the Shanghai Auto Show in China. Once the best selling car in the world, the Escort was also Ford's most popular vehicle name behind the F-series pickup. Ford wasn't convinced that the needs of the market were being met by the automaker's current offerings which is why they decided to bring back the popular nameplate with some modern updates.

The Ford Motor Company Escort Compact Concept Vehicle that debuted at the Shanghai Auto Show is based on the Ford Focus chassis, but stretched a little bit to incorporate a more spacious back seat. With the goal of being roomier and more affordable that the Focus, the Escort concept features a more upright roofline that gives the vehicle a stylish look without being arrogant. Importantly for the Chinese market, the jewel-like headlights on the new Ford Escort are inspired by the Chinese character for the number 8 which is considered lucky as a portent of wealth.

While the Ford Escort will be the automaker's third compact sedan, it works well in China since the country's wealth levels vary widely and compact cars make up 60% of the new vehicle market. However, the Ford Escort Compact Concept Vehicle is just that, a concept. While it isn't clear if the car will ever be built, it is close to a production model since it doesn't include exotic features. But, if the vehicle is produced it is unlikely that it will come to the United States since it was designed specifically for the Chinese market.
