Ford & DTE Work to Build Michigan's Largest Solar Array

Ford & DTE Work to Build Michigan's Largest Solar Array
BRIGHTON, Mich - Two major corporations are partnering up once again to create the second largest solar carport in the Midwest. Ford Motor Company and DTE are working to build Michigan's largest solar array at the Ford World Headquarters in Dearborn. This new solar canopy will not only reduce the amount of energy that Ford offices pull from the grid, but it will offset 794 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions and generate 1.13 million kilowatt-hours each year!

Ford has collaborated with DTE Energy to build Michigan's largest solar array - a renewable and efficient energy source. This carport will be constructed, operated and maintained by DTE for the next 20 years as a part of their SolarCurrents initiative that was launched in 2009. This solar array will generate 1.038 megawatts of electricity, the equivalency of 158 average-sized homes. The carport will provide 360 covered parking spaces and 30 available charging stations for plug-in electric vehicles like the Ford Fusion Energi and C-MAX Hybrid Energi. Construction of the solar array is expected to begin in September and be completed by early 2015.

As Ford further exercises their commitment to sustainability and innovation, they strive to make people's lives better. Through this project, Ford Motor Company is looking to not only create an incredible product, but invest in the communities where employees live and work with technology that will help to improve global sustainability.
