Ford F-Series Is Best Selling Truck For 40 Years

Ford has sold enough F-series trucks to circle the earth more than three times!

The F-series, best known for the popular F-150, has been America's best-selling truck for the 40 consecutive years since its launch. Ford says it's sold more than 26 million since the model line came out in 1977.

The F-series has also been the best-selling vehicle of any kind in America for 35 years, the company said.

Ford has sold 818,580 of the trucks in the years since it launched the F-series. It started with the F-100 as a base truck back in 1977, and replaced it with the F-150 in 1984.

The evolution of the F-series followed changes in how people perceived and used trucks. Like blue jeans, pickup trucks went from being something appropriate only for work to being a style and lifestyle statement of their own.  Americans weren't just using trucks as farm tools anymore, to haul around pigs and hay bales. Trucks were being used increasingly for commuting to office jobs, family trips to Walmart and McDonald's, shuttling the kids to school and tailgate parties at football games.

Ford Launches New Comprehensive Marketing Campaign for 2015 F-150

Ford Launches New Comprehensive Marketing Campaign for 2015 F-150
BRIGHTON, Mich. - This week Ford Motor Company launches their new comprehensive marketing campaign for the all-new 2015 F-150. Ford will be covering all the marketing bases, spreading F-150 messages over a variety of communication platforms. With the all-new F-150 being the toughest, smartest, and most capable of its kind, you can't blame Ford for wanting to spread  the word all over every media outlet.

Ford customers and fanatics have thought about, heard about, and read about the 2015 F-150 for many, many months now. Which is why Ford's marketing approach wasn't to bombard them with facts, many of which they have probably already read, but rather to gain their attention by showing them what the F-150 can do to help them get the job done. From country music and football to bull riding and smartphones, Ford's new marketing strategy will reach customers every where that they work and play.

Ford Launches New Comprehensive Marketing Campaign for 2015 F-150

Ford's new comprehensive marketing campaign for the 2015 F-150 will meet customer's information-gathering needs during commuting and off-hours with digital and mobile content that can answer their questions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There will also be everything from 30-second TV spots to in-depth videos that will spotlight the F-150's forward movement, leadership, innovation, and spirit of progress. The campaign will even feature an updated "Built Ford Tough" shield, a renowned promise to that Ford has made to their customers for more than 35 years.

This new marketing campaign has been strategically developed for truck customers, reaching them where they spend a majority of their time - online and using mobile devices, watching sports on television, listening to radio programs in their trucks, and attending major events. The very first of the 2015 F-150 television commercials will start to air this week during the first-ever college football playoff for NCAA Division 1 teams.

First 2015 F-150 "You Test" Video Released

First 2015 F-150 "You Test" Video Released
BRIGHTON, Mich - Back in February Ford Motor Company launched the "You Test" campaign; where they would give a select group of truck enthusiasts the opportunity to put the 2015 F-150 through the toughest test of all - their own. After months of reviewing roughly 15,000 submissions on BuiltToughTest.com, Ford narrowed it down to four lucky winners.

The first 2015 F-150 "You Test" video that was released featured a systems engineer for military vehicle testing by the name of Brian Schober. Brian lives in Yuma, Arizona, so he put the 2015 F-150 up against a series of off-roading tests in the Arizona dessert -many of which are used to test military vehicles. After 36 hours of plowing through a 10-mile loop with rock crawls, sand washes and suspension challenges in triple-digit temperatures, the 2015 F-150 sure earned its title of being "Built Ford Tough".

The Ford F-150 – Tough Enough For Texas

HUSTON, Texas, Feb. 21, 2012 - We’ve all heard the saying “Built Ford Tough” what seems like a million times. To make that statement more than a catchphrase, Ford Motor Company really goes out and proves itself time and time again. This time, Ford sent the F-150 down to Texas this past October to wrangle with 45 other entrants for the Texas Truck Rodeo. The F-150 had no trouble snagging the overall “Truck of Texas” award. The F-150 was easily a top contender with Best-in-Class Towing and Best-in-Class Payload backed with 3.7L V6 (or a 3.5L V6 with EcoBoost for enhanced fuel economy), a 5.0L V8, or the whopping 6.2LV8 with 411 horsepower and 434 ft-lbs of torque.

With Best-In-Class Towing and Payload the F-150 will haul whatever you need, wherever you need it
Ford received the “Texas-size” trophy (nearly three feet tall!) at the Huston Auto Show by the Texas Rodeo’s sponsor, the Texas Auto Writers Association. Doug Scott, Ford Truck Group Marketing Manager said, “This award means a lot to us, and we thank the Texas Auto Writers Association for validating what our customers have been telling us about our Built Ford Tough F-150. We appreciate their recognition of the quality of our trucks.”

Ford didn’t stop there, the Ford team picked up seven other honors by the TAWA including:

  • Truck Line of Texas: Ford Motor Company
  • CUV of Texas: 2012 Ford Edge
  • Heavy-Duty Pickup Truck: 2012 Ford F-250 King Ranch Super Duty
  • Luxury Pickup Truck: 2012 Ford F-150 Platinum EcoBoost
  • Full-Size Pickup Truck: 2012 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor
  • Mid-Size CUV: 2012 Ford Edge Limited
  • Outstanding Feature: Ford EcoBoost Engine Technology

Stop into Brighton Ford and test drive a F-150 and see what “Built Ford Tough” means for yourself.

Built Ford Tough, Tested Even Tougher

BRIGHTON Mich, Jan. 26, 2012 – Everyone has heard the expression, “Built Ford Tough,” but if you are like many others you wonder what that implies or if it’s just another marketing campaign. Rest assured, when Brighton Ford says “Built Ford Tough,” we mean exactly that… TOUGH.

Ford Social let us in on some of the secrets behind their cold weather testing at the Ford Proving Grounds in Dearborn, Michigan. One test they use is “Deep Thermal Shock,” where engines are cooled to -22 degrees, started, and let it idle for one minute. The engine is then accelerated to horsepower peak speed for 14 minutes until the manifold heats up and gives of a cherry red glow. This cycle is then repeated for 100 to 200 hours!

Dan Badger, Ford Powertrain Integration Supervisor explained, “Testing in extreme conditions helps the calibration team answer vital questions such as, ‘Are we getting the cold start times correct? Is the throttle body icing? Are we going through blizzards and seeing snow ingestion that we didn’t get in wind tunnel testing?’ We want protect customers in a worse-case scenario and deliver the best experience possible when they step on the accelerator pedal.”
