Ford SYNC 3 Software Update Supports Android Auto & Apple CarPlay on '17 & '16 Model-year Vehicles
Ford is making Android Auto and Apple CarPlay software support available to model-year 2016 vehicles equipped with SYNC 3. Customers with model-year 2016 Ford vehicles can update to the new SYNC 3 version 2.2 by downloading to a USB drive, visiting a dealership or automatically through a Wi-Fi connection.
“Our SYNC 3 software platform was designed to be easy to update so we can get our customers the latest and greatest features, functionally and security enhancements,” said Don Butler, executive director, Ford Connected Vehicle and Services. “With over-the-air updates, we can deliver new features to customers in the background while they continue using their vehicles.”
Customers can update their software by visiting owner.ford.com to download and install with a USB drive, or by visiting a dealership. Customers with Wi-Fi-enabled vehicles and a Wi-Fi network can set up their vehicle to receive the update automatically.
Android Auto
Compatible with Android™ devices 5.0 and higher, Android Auto brings the Android experience into the vehicle safely and easily with Google Maps, Google Play Music, phone, messaging and third party apps projected on the car's built-in display and available via voice controls. With a simplified interface, large touch targets, Google voice search and easy-to-use voice controls, Android Auto is designed to minimize distraction while on the road.
Android, Android Auto, Google Maps and Google Play are trademarks of Google Inc.
Apple CarPlay
Compatible with iPhone 5 and later models running iOS 7.1 or higher, Apple CarPlay gives iPhone users an intuitive way to make phone calls, use voice-guided navigation, listen to music, and send and receive messages while staying focused on the road. Users can control Apple CarPlay through the in-vehicle display or via Siri voice control. Apple CarPlay support requires a USB hub upgrade available through Ford dealers.
SYNC 3 currently supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay on all model-year 2017 Ford cars including the Fiesta, Focus, Fusion and Mustang, SUVs including the Escape, Explorer and Expedition, F-Series trucks and Ford’s electrified vehicles.
Receiving updates over Wi-Fi
Though Ford has been issuing SYNC upgrades since 2009, this is the first time the company is offering an update via Wi-Fi. In Wi-Fi-enabled vehicles with Automatic System Updates turned on within SYNC 3, the system will periodically connect to a customer’s designated Wi-Fi network to check for updates. If an update is available, the system automatically downloads the update in the background over a period of time without any customer interaction. And SYNC 3 is designed to perform the update as long as Wi-Fi is connected prior to the vehicle turning off, therefore there is no need to keep the vehicle running for the update to take place.

Brighton Ford Pet’s Of The Week: Pickles and Gracie - A Bonded Pair of Very Loving, 10 year old Male & Female Friends!
We are Pickles and Gracie, a bonded pair of male and female friends who have lived together over 10 years and are looking for a home where we can stay together! We grew up in a home with a dog and kids since we were kittens until we were surrendered because of changes in the home. Our family said we are very well behaved, enjoy being together and often sleep together. We are both sweet, loving and easy to handle. Gracie is a pretty little lady who can be reserved, but friendly and loves to be petted! Pickles is a confident, handsome “little lion” who loves attention and can be quite playful too! We would be so happy to find a relaxed, loving home to enjoy our senior years together!

Brighton Ford Service Advisor At Wreaths Across America
Our very own Service Advisor Lynne Campbell has participated in Wreaths Across America for the last 3 years. Lynne is a veteran herself and loves helping other veterans in need. Wreaths Across America is a national celebration that honors our nation’s veterans. Lynne and other volunteers place wreaths on veteran’s graves at our national cemeteries to remember and honor our veterans. They say the fallen veteran’s names out loud so they are not forgotten. Lynne and the others she volunteers with placed over 20,000 wreaths on veteran’s graves at two national cemeteries this year alone. Thank you to Lynne and all of the other volunteers that participate in Wreaths Across America!

Brighton Ford Partners With Meals On Wheels
Brighton Ford has jumped on board with Meals On Wheels of Livingston and Western Oakland County! We have teamed up with Meals On Wheels to support their fundraising campaign by creating a video and managing their Facebook page to help get the word out about this amazing non-profit. They serve the homebound seniors in our community and support many other programs for children and pets alike…making sure no one goes hungry!
What Meals On Wheels Does
Meals On Wheels of Livingston and Western Oakland County is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, Senior Nutrition Program, designed to serve home-bound seniors over 60 years old in the Livingston County area who are unable to plan, shop or prepare meals for themselves due to post-op surgery, illness, disability or advanced age.
Our meals are prepared and packaged by the Livingston County Senior Nutrition staff under strict dietary supervision. All of the meals we serve meet one-third of the daily nutritional needs of a senior adult and are approved by the Area Agency on Aging 1-B. Volunteer drivers then proceed along their well-diagrammed route to deliver to our seniors in their homes and apartments within Livingston and Western Oakland Counties Monday through Friday, with frozen meals provided for weekends. Our program serves meals to more than 600 seniors every day.

The Brighton Ford Used Car Department has always been known for great prices and a large selection of all makes and models, that is something that will never change. We are excited to announce that Brighton Ford will now offer wholesale vehicles to the public. This means that we are passing on a huge savings to our customers on select vehicles that we would have normally taken to auction. Used cars, trucks and SUVs with pre-auction pricing means that you will be cutting out the middle man and purchasing a vehicle for the lowest price possible (many times for less than what your own grandmother would charge you). Cash in on these huge savings on used Chevrolet, Dodge, Mercury, Audi, Ford and many other manufacturer vehicles on our used car lot in Brighton at I-96 and Grand River.
Click here to view all Wholesale To The Public Vehicles
All Wholesale Vehicles Are Sold AS-IS
These vehicles most likely have multiple mechanical and/or body defects. Our Wholesale to the Public vehicles are sold as AS-IS. The term AS-IS means that there is absolutely no expressed or implied warranty of condition or fitness for a particular purpose. This applies to both the mechanical and cosmetic condition of these AS-IS vehicles. We encourage you to have your wholesale vehicle inspected at your own expense by any outside mechanic or source before you purchase it. The purchaser of an AS-IS vehicle will pay all costs for any repairs. Brighton Ford assumes no responsibility for any repairs regardless of any verbal statements made about any vehicle that is marked as Wholesale to the Public. Car Maintenance Tips: How To Jump-Start Your Car
Every driver should learn how to jump-start a car because, well, you never know. That said, if your car won’t start, it’s generally best to call a professional, for both your own safety and that of your car. But if you need to do it yourself—and you drive a gasoline-powered car—follow these tips.
1. Locate the battery in each car. Before you get started, find the battery in both your car (i.e., the “disabled” one) and the one you will use for the jump (the “source” car). The battery is usually under the hood, but in some cars it is in the rear of the car or even under a seat. This location will affect the way you position the cars.
2. Identify which post is positive and which is negative on each battery. IMPORTANT: A post may have a red cap or red tape on it, but that doesn’t always mean it’s positive. There is almost always a raised plastic symbol on the battery housing to mark “+” or “-“ near the battery post.
3. Start the source car and position it so that the jumper cable will reach both batteries without being pulled taut. Leave that car running.
4. Put on safety glasses. The car’s fan can blow debris in your face when the engine starts up after a jump. Or a spark could lead to an explosion (rare, but it does happen), spraying battery acid into your eyes. Don’t risk it—consider stashing a pair of safety glasses in your emergency kit, so you’ll be prepared.
5. Hook up the disabled car. First connect the positive cable to the positive post, then connect the negative cable to a “known good ground”—an automotive-industry term for an unpainted metal part of the car, such as the engine block. IMPORTANT: If you have a hybrid or an electric car, read your owner’s manual carefully before attempting a jump start. (Fusion Energi owners, read this, Focus Electric owners, read this) The process of finding a good ground for these cars is different, and a small mistake in placement could cause an expensive problem.
6. Connect the source car. Again, do it in this order, to reduce the likelihood of sparks occurring: Attach the positive jumper cable to the positive battery post, then connect the negative cable to a known good ground—as far away from the battery as possible. (When a battery charges, a gas is released, and any sparks could cause an explosion.) Ensure that the jumper cables are not near any moving engine parts. Don’t move either of the cars while the jumper cables are attached.
7. Try to start the disabled car. If it starts, great! Skip down to step 10.
8. If the car doesn’t start, let it charge for a few minutes, with the source car running. Just leave everything connected and wait. As the car runs, its own battery becomes more charged, allowing it to have enough power to charge the disabled car. This may take as little as five minutes. If it starts now, jump to step 10.
9. If your car is still not starting after about five minutes—or if it starts, then dies again after a few seconds—call to have your car towed to Brighton Ford. Some companies will deliver new batteries, but this may not be worth your time and money, because whenever a new battery is installed certain areas of your car should be examined (e.g., the battery cable ends, in case there’s corrosion, and the charging system, to determine why the battery went dead in the first place). So it’s a good idea to tow your car to a Brighton Ford near Howell and have it checked properly. Also, the battery may be covered under warranty, and your Ford service advisor can check on your car’s warranty status. Call Ford Roadside Assistance at 800-241-3673.
10. Safely disconnect the two cars. Remove the cables in reverse order of installation: negative first, then positive on the source car. Then negative followed by positive on the car that received the jump.
Once your car is up and running again, don’t just zip home to lick your wounds. It’s a good idea to operate your car for 15 to 20 minutes to fully charge the battery. Avoid the freeway until you know it’s back in working order. Instead, drive at the speed limit on a main road to help the battery charge more efficiently—and cross your fingers that you’ll never have to jump-start your car again.
Our Ford Certified Technicians can repair all makes and models and are here for your car battery, oil change, brake service and auto repair needs. We are open Monday – Friday from 7am – 6pm and Saturday from 7am – 12pm for all your auto maintenance needs. Our Service Department is award winning, as a matter of fact we were voted Best Auto Dealership Service in Livingston County by the Livingston Daily Press and Argus.

Brighton Ford Pet Of The Week: ZEUS The Adorable, 2 year-old, 19 pound Lap Cat!
My name is Zeus. I am a BIG SWEET boy with a BIG HEART and lots of personality! I was surrendered because my family could no longer care for me. I am an adorable, short hair, orange and white (neutered) male with 4 white paws who is only about 2 years old and weighs over 19 pounds! That is a LOT of cat to LOVE, but I could use help to lose a few pounds to keep me healthy. That should not be too hard because I LOVE to PLAY! I also LOVE to sit on your LAP and SNUGGLE! I would be so happy to find a forever home and family to love!

The Salvation Army of Livingston County Is Looking For Individuals To Share Their Story
If you have worked with and benefited from The Salvation Army of Livingston County, please read their request below:
Do you have a connection to The Salvation Army?
Will you share your story with us?
Your story can brighten someone’s day.
Your story can make people laugh.
Your story can let someone know that they are not alone.
Your story can inspire others to action.
Your story may have begun as hardship, but it can end in victory and advocacy.
Your story has the power to help transform a life.
We are embarking on a project to document stories of The Salvation Army’s impact in Livingston County. We are looking for first-hand accounts of how we may have made a connection with YOU, or how YOU made a connection with us. We would love to hear from people who received assistance or experienced a kindness that has made a lasting impact on them, from people who regularly volunteer, from people who have found a friend through one of our ministries, to people who have found healing through experiences with our church. Even a short, funny story can help us connect with the community we are trying to reach with our message; that we are here to meet the needs of our community in Jesus’ name.
Will you share your story with us?
Individual stories like yours help us to tell the full story of what we do, and why we do it. I'd love to hear from you and discuss how we might share your feedback to inspire hope in others.
Please send your story to liz_welch@usc.salvationarmy.org or call 517-295-4347 to share your story.
