Ford Develops Innovative Way to Transport Transit Van to North American Dealers

Ford Develops Innovative Way to Transport Transit Van to North American Dealers
BRIGHTON, Mich - Ford has Developed an Innovative Way to Transport Transit Van to North American Dealers. With the Ford Transit offering customers the best-in-class interior cargo heights, it has also presented Ford engineers with a challenge. Typically, Ford ships vehicles from the assembly plants to the dealerships using railcars and trucks. However, the medium and high-roof Transit vehicles are too tall to fit in conventional railcars. So, these presented Ford engineers with an opportunity to develop an innovative way to transport the Transit Van to North American Dealers. Ford engineers worked closely with railroad and railcar manufacturers to develop an innovative railcar that could easily accommodate all of the roof-heigh variations offered on the new 2015 Transit.

Ford and leading rail companies worked together to create these modified Transit railcars. Each of the inner decks have been elevated, allowing for as many as seven medium- and high-roof Transit vehicles to be loaded onto the lower deck and up to seven smaller vehicles, such as the Ford Fusion, to be loaded onto the top deck. The height of these railcars have not been modified, so there will be no issues with overpasses and tunnels. By incorporating modified railcars into the shipping network, Ford is able to deliver Transit vehicles more proficiently and for less money. For dealers that are within a 500-mile radius of the Kansas City Assembly Plant in Claycomo, Missouri, where the Transit is produced, Transits will be delivered by truck. Shipments longer than 500 miles will be delivered by rail. Optimizing balance of rail and truck transportation will help in utilizing resources responsibly and support Ford's Blueprint for Sustainability.

Ford's 15th Annual Sustainability Report Spotlights Future Water Conservation Initiatives

Ford's 15th Annual Sustainability Report Spotlights Future Water Conservation Initiatives
BRIGHTON, Mich - Ford Motor Company has released their 15th annual Sustainability Report today, underlining their commitment to environmentally responsible manufacturing practices and the positive outcome that they have seen thus far. Ford's 15th Annual Sustainability Report Spotlights Future Water Conservation Initiatives for the company's global facilities and their suppliers. Ford Motor Company believes that clean, affordable drinking water and access to sanitation is a basic human right. So, back in 2009 Ford Motor Company set a goal to reduce per vehicle water use by 30 percent globally and guess what? They met that goal two years ahead of schedule. Ford cut global water use by 61 percent, equating to 10 billion gallons or 1 billion five-minute-long showers, between 2000 and 2013.

Ford's 15th Annual Sustainability Report Spotlights Future Water Conservation Initiatives and with the current progress of the company's largest global expansion in more than 50 years, Ford is working hard to continue to improve their manufacturing processes. As Ford continues to expand, it will soon be working in regions with water scarcity, eventually making water a costly item. From a business point of view, it is important to take these constraints into account and immediately take action. Ford is looking to cut water use by another 2 percent this year and will also be setting some new long-term conservation goals. Ford will be asking high water-use suppliers and water-stressed regions to voluntarily report water their consumption. From there, Ford and the suppliers will work together to make reductions and hopefully encourage other suppliers around the global to take similar action towards water conservation.

University of Kansas's WellCar Program Receives Ford Transit Connect Donation

University of Kansas's WellCar Program Receives Ford Transit Connect Donation
BRIGHTON, Mich - The University of Kansas's WellCar Program Received a Ford Transit Connect Donation for one year that will help to provide mobile medical care to non-ambulatory patients living in rural areas. One may have to travel for hours to a doctor or health care facility from a rural area; but with the help of the this rolling medical workstation, testing, diagnosis and treatment and prescribed medications will be available right outside their door. The University of Kansas was in need of a vehicle that would allow the nurse practitioners to travel to as many as six patients a day, carrying all of the necessary medical equipment and communicate wirelessly for treatment purposes. Fortunately for the university, the Ford Transit Connect possessed the efficiency, cargo capacity and maneuverability that the WellCar program had been searching for.

The WellCar Transit Connect is going the extra mile for patient care and differing itself from current medical vehicles by providing patients with a vast range of extensive, prevention-based medical care services. Transit Connect can be ordered without windows in the cargo area for amplified security and has several different wheelbases available for more space and options for setting up equipment. The van also allows for nurse practitioners to securely transfer medical data through its very own Wi-Fi hotspot to a medical center. Nurse practitioners may then administer treatment and prescribe medications if necessary.

Advanced industrial design and engineering students from the University of Kansas will develop the specifications for installing the medical equipment, then incorporate the equipment and connectivity into the WellCar Transit Connect. The University of Kansas's WellCar Program Received a Ford Transit Connect Donation, making one of four WellCar Transit Connect vans that the university intends to deploy to serve western Kansas. The university has already received interest about expanding the program to Nebraska, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas.

Ford and Heinz Prove Tomatoes and Cars Have More in Common Than We Thought

Ford and Heinz Prove Tomatoes and Cars Have More in Common Than We ThoughtBRIGHTON, Mich - Oddly enough, Ford and Heinz Prove that Tomatoes and Cars Have More in Common Than We Thought. Researchers at Ford Motor Company and H.J. Heinz Company are teaming up to examine the use of tomato fibers as a more sustainable bio-plastic material for automobiles. Roughly two years ago, Ford started collaborating with Heinz, The Coca-Cola Company, Nike Inc. and Procter & Gamble in hopes to develop a 100 percent plant-based plastic that could be utilized for just about anything from packaging to fabric. Ford was looking to step away from petroleum-based packaging and create a lower environmental impact with a sustainable bio-plastic.

Heinz Ketchup, which uses more than two million tons of tomatoes annually to produce its best-selling product, turned to Ford as they started to search for an innovative method for recycling and repurposing peels, stems and seeds. Currently, Ford researchers are testing dried tomato skins as potential vehicle wiring brackets and storage bins. Now as the companies begin to join forces in the initial stages of research, they are extremely excited about the possibilities that lie ahead for the advancement of sustainable 100 percent plant-based plastics.

Ford is committed to reduce, reuse and recycle in efforts to lessen the company's environmental footprint while continuing the development of fuel-efficient vehicle technology all over the world. You can do your part in reducing your carbon footprint by visiting the fuel-efficient vehicles at Brighton Ford! Stop by the dealership for a test-drive today!

Ford Seeks Expanded Adoption of Inflatable Safety Belt

Ford Seeks Expanded Adoption of Inflatable Safety Belt
BRIGHTON, Mich - Ford Seeks Expanded Adoption of the Inflatable Safety Belt by patenting the technology and offering it to other companies and industries, including some competing automotive manufacturers. Ford is hoping with an increased availability in licenses, there will be a wider adoption of enhancing passenger safety with inflatable safety belts. Ford Motor Company has been committed to standardizing technology which goes beyond Ford customers. As more companies that get onboard with this new technology, the larger the improvement in travel safety and the amount of passenger injuries that occur in seated-passenger transportation across the board.

Ford Seeks Expanded Adoption of Inflatable Safety Belt, just four years after the debut in 2010. Ford has started expanding availability of the safety belts on Ford and Lincoln vehicles. As of now, the Ford Flex, Explorer and Fusion contain the new technology and soon we will see it on the 2015 F-150, Lincoln MKT and MKZ. The inflatable safety belts work just as a standard seat belt would, until the instance of a crash. The seat belt then deploys over the passenger's torso and shoulder, distributing the pressure over a larger area than a traditional seat belt. When pressure is dispersed to a larger area, it reduces the amount of weight on the passenger's chest and helps to control the head and neck motion.

If you're interested in acquiring a vehicle with the latest inflatable safety belt technology, give Brighton Ford a call. We are more than happy finding you a safe, top-quality vehicle so that you can drive away with ease.
