Artisan Corner - A Work Skills Art Program

The Work Skills Corporation Art program “Artisan Corner”, is located at our corporate office in Brighton, Michigan. Our art program provides program participants and others we serve the opportunity to express artistic skills by producing artwork, some of which will be displayed and offered for sale at Studio West, and throughout the community. Artisan Corner artists work in a variety of forms, including painting and drawing, ceramics and fiber arts which can be purchased at Studio West Gallery.

Studio West Gallery
Located on 111 South West Street, Studio West, Home of Art with a Heart, serves as a publicly accessible gallery, showcasing the artwork of persons with disabilities, students and allies to these individuals and communities. The rotating show schedule is expected to include pieces created by individuals with disabilities, students, as well as works by instructors and supporters. A variety of artwork will be available for purchase, ranging from large pieces to small seasonal and gift items, providing income directly to the artists. In addition, Studio West staff hope to include publicly interactive pieces with many of the shows.

The gallery space also features a dynamic art workshop, offering classes that are accessible to community members with all levels of ability. People interested in taking classes, volunteering, or learning more about upcoming shows are encouraged to contact Lauren Donahue at (810) 534-6200 and follow Studio West on Facebook here.

By making the creative process and finished pieces accessible to the public, Studio West, a Work Skills Corporation venture, serves as a face, voice, and dialogue space for individuals and communities to interact across a wide array of experiences and abilities.

Brighton Ford Partners With Work Skills For Their Summer Youth Work Experience Program

We had a great time hosting Work Skills students this summer for their 2016 Summer Youth Work Experience Program.  We would like to thank Work Skills for the recognition, but more importantly for the experience…we learned more from these students than they did from us!

Work Skills Corporation (WSC) provides award winning services on a wide variety of employment and training programs for youth beginning at age 14 with disabilities and/or have a basic skills deficiency, both in and out of school. WSC services assist youth facing barriers to employment to learn and develop the broad range of skills and work experience they need to participate and transition into the workforce. These include career exploration (like the Summer Youth Work Experience Program Brighton Ford helped with), vocational, situational and clerical assessments, specialized assessments (e.g. Custodial, PC Skills Assessment), job tryouts, work experiences, transitional employment, job development, job shadows, on-site employer tours, on-the-job supports, follow up, and resume building.
