Completed one year ago, the 9/11 Memorial twin reflecting pools, featuring North America's largest man made waterfalls, sit where the twin towers used to stand and serve as a national tribute to the nearly 3,000 people killed in the terror attacks of September 11, 2001 as well as the six people killed in the World Trade Center bombing in February 1993. Each reflecting pool is nearly an acre in size, surrounded by lush green trees. Bronze panels edge the memorial pools, inscribed with the names of each and every person who died in the attacks. The September 11th Memorial in New York City serves as powerful reminder of the largest loss of life resulting from a foreign attack on American soil and the greatest single loss of rescue personnel in American history.
The 9/11 Memorial's creators, architect Michael Arad and landscape architect Peter Walker, were chosen to create the September 11th Memorial from a global design competition that attracted 5,200 entries from 63 nations!
